Barcelona, Spain – February 25, 2014 – ANT Wireless, proven innovator in ultra low power (ULP) wireless technology, today confirms that Sony Mobile Communications (“Sony”) has added native ANT+ connectivity to its new flagship smartphone, XperiaTM Z2; the new flagship tablet, XperiaTM Z2 Tablet; and the new Sony mid-market XperiaTM M2 smartphone.  These leading products, together with the recently announced Xperia Z1S and Xperia Z1 Compact, add five new devices to Sony Mobile’s existing portfolio of 19 ANT+ enabled smartphones bringing premier ANT+ functionality to a broader, increasingly-connected consumer base.

Waterproof, durable and dust resistant, Sony XperiaTM Z2 and XperiaTM Z2 Tablet are ideal product offerings for active lifestyles and link to the millions of highly functional and innovative ANT+ enabled sport, fitness and health monitoring solutions from popular brands. Now celebrating ten years in wearable technology, ANT+ has a future proof approach to connectivity with a focus on seamless integration into ever-expanding and evolving uses cases.

“Sony is charting new ground in providing the ability for accessory manufacturers to connect in to so many smartphones,” stated Rod Morris, Vice President, ANT Wireless. “Complementing this is the fact that ANT+ has made wearable technology simple and reliable.  The resulting benefit is that mobile phone, tablet and device manufacturers can grow with the needs of the increasingly-connected consumer, moving beyond sport, fitness and health into the truly integrated home – ultimately the connected life.”

The new Sony products are certified as ANT+ Capable and require only an ANT+ application download to link to the millions of available ANT+ certified devices.  (See complete list atwww.thisisant.com/directory.)

ANT+ enables products developed for running, walking, hiking, cycling, swimming, etc., manufactured by industry leaders including Trek, BKOOL, A&D Medical, Garmin and Octane.  ANT+ technology allows for easy transitioning between activities (eg. outdoor cycling to indoor cycling), and can seamlessly move data between devices (heart rate data from strap to smartphone and watch and group class leader board simultaneously).  The functionality that enables these sport, fitness and health use cases adapts easily into the emerging area of connected home and life management functions such as lighting control, locks, remotes and environmental information/control.
