BACKGROUND:

IndyCar and Verizon recently announced Verizon’s title sponsorship of the IndyCar Series, designed to bring a high level of innovation and technology to IndyCar’s growing audience.

In anticipation of the 75,000-plus attendees at this weekend’s event, Verizon has deployed two cell-on-wheels (COWs) that will boost the network capacity and power smartphones and tablets with 4G LTE and XLTE connectivity.

XLTE utilizes Verizon’s AWS (Advanced Wireless Services) spectrum, which allows Verizon to deliver significantly increased capacity – at a minimum, doubling the capacity – over its high-speed 4G LTE network.  This means more IndyCar fans, media and local residents can access the company’s most advanced technology at the same time to send photos, post tweets, watch streaming media, surf the Internet and use popular applications like the INDYCAR 14 app on their smartphones, tablets and other devices during times of peak usage.

The INDYCAR 14 app improves the fan experience both trackside or at home. View the leaderboard featuring vehicle telemetry, timing and scoring data on each car. Get live stats such as vehicle speed, engine revs (RPM), engine throttle (%), gear number, steering angle and more. Look up car numbers, laps, pit stops, best time and best speed. In addition there are numerous live features that make fans feel like they’re riding along with their favorite drivers:

  • Watch each race from the driver’s seat with in-car video for select drivers.
  • Get behind the scenes as you listen to drivers talk strategy with their pit crew right in the heat of the race.
  • Track each car and driver with real-time leaderboard and track map.
  • Listen to live radio broadcast of each race.
  • Monitor all the action with 4-in-1 mosaic screen format.
