The 2016 KIA Sorento is powered by a 2.0 Liter Gas Turbo with Direct Injection. The 2.0 sounds small, but thanks to the turbo, the Sorento still has plenty of power to get you up to speed when merging on the highway, and will also put you back into your seat when you hit the gas. The 2.0 is mated to a 6 speed automatic transmission that helps get the Sorento to a combined average gas mileage of 20.2 during our testing. The transmission also has Sportmatic mode giving you the ability to upshift and downshift giving you a sportier feel. You can also switch between three driving modes, ECO,Standard, and Sport. These 2 modes in concert with the Sportmatic Transmission give you an excellent driving experience, no matter what you driving style is.The transmission powers a Full Time all wheel drive system with lockable center differential. Getting the power to the road are 19 inch wheels mated to all season tires. The tires are held to the road with front and rear independent suspension.
KIA has also packed lots of safety features into the Sorento. They have given you and your front seat passenger Dual Front Advanced Airbags, as well as side air bags built into the seat and side curtain airbags. The side curtain airbags also extend and protect your rear seat passengers. To help keep you from ever having to need those, you have a 4 wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS). The Sorento also has Traction control, Electronic Stability Control, and Hill Start Assist. All of these combined can help you keep your car on the road where it belongs. When your on the highway, to save you from getting into an accident, KIA has included Blind Spot Detectors so you don’t pull into someone, and also Tire Pressure Monitoring System so you know if a tire is getting low before it goes flat. Optional safety features that were added in the SXL package are Xenon HID Headlights, Lane Departure Warning System, Forward Collision Warning System, Surround View Monitor, and Smart Cruise Control.
The interior of the KIA Sorento is full of amenities and all the things you would expect in a $60,000 plus SUV. First are the heated and ventilated drivers and passenger seats. Both seats are power adjustable with the drives seat featuring key activated auto adjusting to get the set to the perfect position based off the key fob. The driver also gets a power adjustable lumbar support. The trim in our Sorento was upgraded to the Merlot Nappa Leather Seats. The leather is soft and comfortable to sit on, but the color lacks something to be desired. I would prefer a brown or black interior. The rear seats are also leather wrapped as well as the steering wheel, center console, and door panels. The driver also has the luxury of a heated steering wheel. The rear seats are spacious and had enough room to comfortably sit 3 adults.
The read cargo are can handle lots of packages. It has 38 cubic feet of space with the seats up and up too 73 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded down. There is also storage compartments under the rear floor.
