Behind The Wheel: 2016 Kia Optima SX Turbo

The 2016 Kia Optima SX Turbo is a midsized family car that features the power and sport you want, while delivering your family where you want safely and comfortably. Lets check it out. 

The 2016 Optima SX Turbo is powered by a 2.0 Liter Turbo Gas Direct Injection 4 Cylinder Engine. This engine gives you a combined gas mileage of 25 mpg while still giving you a 0-60 time of 6.8 seconds. The power is put to the ground through 18 inch alloy wheels via a 6 speed  Automatic Transmission with Active Eco System. The Optima gives you great acceleration and sporty handling both on the highway and back country roads. The shifts are smooth crisp and the 6 speed transmission gives you the great gas mileage. You also have the ability to switch between driving modes to make your ride smooth for those long highway trips, or sporty when you want to throw your car around those tight back country roads. 

The Optima SX  is pack with standard safety features such as Dual Front Advanced Airbags, Front Seat Mounted Side Airbags, Drivers Knee Airbag, Full Length Side Curtain Airbags, The LATCH system for child safety seats, Anti-Lock Braking System, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, Vehicle Stability Management, Hill Start Assist, and TPMS. The car we tested also features Front Collision Warning System, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alerts, Rear Parking Assist, Lane Departure Warning System, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, as well as Surround View Monitor.

The Kia Optima SX Turbo is a 4 door car that comes standard with HID Headlights with Auto Leveling and Dynamic Bending. This turns the headlights into the corner when you turn the wheel. The vehicle tested also has High Beam Assist. The rear view mirrors are power folding with heat and LED turn signals built-in. The rear tail lights are also LED. Part of the turbo package features Dual Exhaust with Chrome tips.

The interior of the Optima SX Turbo features Leather seating that are heated. Both front seats also feature ventilation.  The driver’s seat is power adjustable with power lumbar support.  The driver’s seat also has driver memory that also automatically adjusts. The steering wheel is also leather wrapped with paddle shifter. The steering wheel also houses the stereo controls as well as being able to adjust the instrument cluster. 

The Kia Optima SX Turbo we tested features the Harman Kardon OLS Premium Surround Sound thanks to the SXT Premium Technology Package. Included in this package is Navigation with an 8 Inch touch screen and rear camera display.  You can connect your phone to the stereo via Bluetooth. This gives you both hands free phone calls as well as allowing you to play your music. you can also charge and connect your phone via USB cable and Aux cable thanks to the inclusion of USB and AUX ports in the center console.  You also have SIRIUSXM Satellite Radio with 3 months free trial.

The instrument cluster features standard gauges such as  engine temp, tach, fuel gauge, and speedometer. The middle of the cluster features a 4.2 inch TFT-LCD screen. This screen can give you your turn by turn directions, Music information, system settings, maintainance information, and fuel economy.

KIA offers a 10 year/100,000 mile Limited Powertrain Warranty as well as 5 year/ 60,000 mile Limited Basic Warranty. Added to this, you also have 5 year 60,000 mile Roadside Assistance.

Base price for the 2016 KIA Optima SX Turbo is $29,690 plus freight and handling. Price as tested $35,315
