September 11, 2017 Tokyo, Japan – ECBB Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of high quality “Made-in-Japan” electronic accessories and the winner of 2017 Red Dot Design Award and 2015 GOOD DESIGN Award, announced today that Foldable; the world’s lightest and thinnest portable laptop stand was named a Finalist in the 2017 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA®). The highly regarded competition is sponsored annually by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), attracting entrants from across the globe. The company couldn’t be more pleased by the news.
“We are thrilled to have received this recognition for our work, which demonstrates how the Japanese Traditional Paper and Origami Technologies collaborates and blends its characteristics with new and innovative breakthroughs,” commented Yasuhiro Matsuura, CEO of ECBB Co. Ltd. “We commit to work hard to contribute to society through our innovative and creatively designed products.”
Foldable is the world’s lightest (15 gram) and thinnest (0.8 mm), but sufficiently solid portable laptop stand. This unique characteristics is achieved with both of Kurotani Washi (the first class, traditional hand-crafted Japanese paper with 800 years of history in Kyoto, Japan) , which is stronger than normal papers by its nature, and the truss structure constructed by Japanese “Origami” engineering. The beautiful presence with unique color profile and warm hand feeling can’t be realized through modern industry. In addition, Foldable is developed based on ergonomic design and thus provides us with the natural slope, which improves stability, better typing posture, and reduced body stress. This is an innovation that enhances portability, strength and physical health. On top of that, this uniquely designed paper laptop stand features superior heat dissipation, which prevents deterioration of the battery and results in the longevity of the battery. Last but not least, Foldable can be used as a stand for smartphone and tablet devices as well, in the combination with an iPhone cover “Palmo,” the first product of ECBB Co., Ltd. This is a demonstration that the products of ECBB Co., Ltd. not only function independently on its own, but also synergistically function and mutually enhance each other.
The IDSA couldn’t help but notice these qualities, which placed Foldable among the competition’s finalists.
IDEA 2017 Jury Chair Owen Foster, IDSA, remarked about the award selection process, “IDSA IDEA 2017 winners demonstrate how designers are able to capture what’s invisible to others and inspire beauty through the smallest of details within the simplest of artifacts. Winners go beyond the tangible that we are so accustomed to seeing – to cultivate amazing, holistic ecosystems.”
