BAJA DESIGNS INTRODUCES THE REVOLUTIONARY NEW LP9 LIGHT

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Baja Designs – “The Scientists of Lighting” – introduces a new, revolutionary light – the LP9 light system – based upon the company’s popular La Paz 8-inch HID/Halogen light.
Due to demand for a light with the large 8-inch form factor, Baja Designs created a completely new, dramatically improved, LED version of the La Paz. The new LP9 light system provides a more useful light output from the original La Paz, with new styling – delivering the “large light look” which appeals to customers.

The new technologies incorporated into the LP9 makes it stand apart from any other auxiliary light on the market. It is a fresh take on the classic look, and is targeted to Jeep® and other SUV vehicles, including cross-country/overland vehicles, full-size trucks and race vehicles, as well as anyone looking for a full size, 8-inch light.

Baja Designs engineers have created a completely new housing with state-of-the-art LED technologies – marrying the high intensity, long distance, very tight pattern features found in the original La Paz light with Baja Designs’ latest LED lighting technology. In the process, the engineering team incorporated new technologies to deliver close range, cornering and nearfield “comfort zone” visibility for the LP9.

The new LP9 utilizes Integrated Peripheral Technology (IPT) to enhance the lighting patterns, featuring two groups of three IPT LEDs at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. The six IPT LEDs are in addition to nine of the more familiar LEDs in the light’s center, which produce the long-distance spot lighting. The LP9 can be seen in action https://youtu.be/2NSPgpvC3yc.

The IPT LEDs do not use reflectors attached to the LED, instead using directionally engineered reflectors within the IPT housings to redirect the light into the cornering/nearfield “comfort zone” lighting pattern. This makes the IPT light pattern ideal for seeing close obstacles and travelling through technically difficult terrain.

The LP9 offers three lighting function options – Amber Backlit, Low and High. The “Amber Backlit” function can be used as a daytime running light or as a turn signal (if wired to the turn signal circuit), and features the backlit Baja Designs logo at the 6 o’clock position. The “Low” function uses all IPT lights and three bottom LEDs from the primary forward projecting LEDs. The “High” function activates the nine long distance LEDs, plus all of the IPT lights.

Baja Designs’ LP9 will also be available in a Racer Edition configuration, which produces a tighter spot pattern for increased distance illumination. The LP9 lighting system is available with or without a four-position controller switch and wiring harness. It will be available with IPT lights on both sides of the housing, the IPT light on the left or right side, as well as without IPT lights.

Since the LP9 allows a single light assembly to produce several different patterns, it can reduce the number of auxiliary lights needed – particularly useful if mounting space is at a premium.

In addition to the IPT technology, the light includes new, intricately designed and engineered heat sinks, with Direct Ducted Cooling (DDC), which improves the cooling of the heatsinks by ducting outside air through the housing and across the heatsinks to assure the LP9 will constantly deliver its full lighting potential.

The LP9 prototype will be available for viewing at the Baja Designs 25th Anniversary Open House on August 26, 2017. Production models will be displayed in the company’s booth #24325 at the 2017 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, October 31 – November 3, 2017 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

About Baja Designs
Celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2017, Baja Designs has engineered revolutionary ways to stay at the forefront of motorcycle and automotive auxiliary HID and LED lighting. The company’s first product was a Dual Sport kit that made a pure off-road motorcycle minimally street legal. That intimate knowledge of motorcycle electrical capabilities led to a natural evolution to engineer the first HID motorcycle race light. As a result, Baja Designs lights have won every professional and amateur motorcycle, plus ATV Baja 1000 class for over 15 years. Baja Designs is a portfolio company of Kinderhook Industries.
