Santa Clara, CA – March 27, 2014 – Magellan, a leader of innovative GPS devices for vehicles, fitness, outdoor, and mobile navigation, has announced its latest SmartGPS model is now available.  The new unit, SmartGPS 5390, is a powerful navigation device that keeps drivers informed, saves them time and money, and provides safer navigation. The SmartGPS 5390 also includes free companion apps for either iOS or Android smartphones. It is available now at www.magellangps.com for $229.99 and is slated to hit the HSN airways on March 28.

“As a pioneer in the GPS navigation industry, we recognize that in today’s socially-driven world consumers want and need a more comprehensive navigation solution than what traditional GPS devices and smartphones can offer,” said Stig Pedersen, associate vice president of product management for Magellan. “Our cloud-based SmartGPS Ecosystem and SmartGPS device is engineered from the ground up for consumers who desire discovery, relevance and local awareness combined with navigation.”

Connected Car for Everyone
Featuring a sleek and stylish appearance, the Magellan SmartGPS 5390 offers a connected car experience for a fraction of the price of a premium in-dash infotainment system. Harnessing the power of cloud computing, advanced navigation, and a glass multi-touch screen, the SmartGPS 5390 combines the best of smartphone and GPS capabilities.

The SmartGPS 5390 helps users save time and money by automatically delivering the locations of the lowest gas prices and other real-time valuable local information such as reviews and tips from Yelp and Foursquare, as well as PhantomALERT red-light camera alerts, weather reports, traffic conditions, and much more. All with no additional subscription or data plans required.

In addition, the Magellan SmartGPS 5390 comes with powerful, specially designed iOS and Android smartphone apps that allow users to easily browse and select locations from a variety of sources, then send those locations directly from their phone to the unit, and immediately begin navigating. Apps are currently available for the iPhone 4S and newer and most Android models.

Sharing information between the SmartGPS 5390 and a user’s smartphone, computer, and tablet is easily and automatically conducted through automatic cloud syncing. This ensures that once contacts and destinations are entered or bookmarked, they will always be readily available.

Premium Magellan GPS Functionality
Magellan’s long-held position as an industry leader continues with the SmartGPS 5390. It is packed with premium features, including a 5” capacitive touchscreen LCD display with multi-touch interface, free lifetime map updates and traffic alerts, WiFi and Bluetooth and highway lane assist. Additionally, it comes with a Texas Instruments Cortex A8 1GHz processor to support the increased demand for high-resolution graphics and multi-function data processing, 4GB memory to support applications and detailed navigation maps, microSD card slot for storing additional maps, and a microUSB connector.
