Griffin Wins 2014 Bronze IDEA Award for Olli Retail
Nashville, Tenn. – July 8, 2014 – Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA) recently awarded Griffin Technology, one of the world’s foremost creators of innovations for everyday life, with a 2014 Bronze International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) for its Olli Retail. Olli Retail is a scalable point-of-sale system designed for businesses of all sizes — anything from a one-person shop to large multi-unit retail chains. Griffin’s 2014 IDEA award will be presented at the IDSA International Conference in Austin, TX at the Austin Hilton on the evening of Wednesday, August 13, 2014.
Considered one of the most prestigious design contests in the world for the past 34 years, IDEA recognizes design excellence in products, sustainability, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts. A panel of 24 international design experts judged over 2,000 entries on the following criteria: innovation, benefit to user, responsibility, benefit to client, visual appeal and appropriate aesthetics, design research category insights, and design strategy category.
“We’re honored to be selected for a Bronze IDEA Award for Olli Retail among thousands of entries,” says Robert Nieman, Director of Engineering at Griffin Technology. “With Olli Retail we wanted to challenge the traditional point-of-sale paradigm by creating a mobile, ergonomic and scalable POS platform. Our team of industrial designers and engineers embarked on this endeavor with Griffin’s core philosophy at heart—to bring to life intuitive and dynamic solutions that empower people to get the most out of their technology.”
Designed around iPhone 5s and iPod touch (5th Generation), Olli Retail is a handheld point-of-sale solution with a built-in barcode scanner and industry-standard credit card encryption. According to research by IHL Group, a global retail research and advisory firm, mobile POS is projected to grow more than 95 percent worldwide in 2014. Griffin is at the forefront of this trend with Olli Retail by enabling retailers to expedite their customers through the checkout process away from traditional point-of-sale terminals.
The ergonomically-designed device fits comfortably in a retail team member’s hand while the angled barcode scanner and tapered credit card swipe opening are intuitive to use. The sleek, shatter-resistant TPR co-molding protects iPhone 5s and iPod touch from impacts. Hundreds of companies worldwide are enjoying the elegant design of Olli Retail for data capture, point-of-sale, inventory, ID verification, and medical use, and Griffin has recently expanded this award-winning design to iPad mini.
