Hands On: Urban Armor Gear Case For iPhone 5 and HTC One M8

It’s been awhile since I’ve had the chance to review a cell phone case, so when UAG came to me wanting a review I jumped on the chance.

The UAG case is built with form and function in mind. These cases add great protection without adding any bulk to the size of the phone. The UAG case is made from plastic and has minimal flex to it. The cases fit the phones very well and doesn’t allow the phone to slide around. The cases feature a more flexible plastic core with the same plastic at the top and bottom of the phone to allow for ease of putting the phone in the case.  There is also a harder outer shell to protect from bumps and bruises. The power and volume buttons are also plastic and easy to use. The buttons never got stuck and the plastic is built firm enough that the buttons don’t become dislodged.

UAG has tested their cases to Military Standard 810G-516.6. This standard is what the military uses to drop test their equipment.  To test this standard, they drop the phone from a height of 48 inches 26 times on the front, back, and sides. Once the drop test is complete, the device must still work and have no damage to the screen.

If that doesn’t give you faith in the case than nothing will.

The style of the case is industrial with simulated bolts on the outside and a honeycomb pattern on the inside. The UAG case for the iPhone 5/5S that we tested had a dual color scheme of grey and black.  The contrast made for a visually appealing case. The Case on the HTC One M8 is solid black, but still build the same with the same look and protection.

The case used on the iPhone 5S is the Aero case with a price of $34.95. The HTC One M8 Case tested was the Scout with the price of $34.95 also. The cases worked great and went through some drops during testing, and the phone showed no signs of wear or damage.

The only fault I could find with these cases is the fact that on the HTC One M8 the infered light for controlling your TV or other devices is at the top of the phone. This is covered by the case and I could not get it to function with the case on.

The Urban Armor Gear Cases are available for iPad Air, iPad Mini, iPhone 4/4S/5/5S/5C, HTC One, HTC One M8, Samsung Galaxy S3/S4/S5, Galaxy Note 2 and 3, and the Microsoft Surface Pro and Pro 2.

Prices range from $34.95 for the phone cases up to $59.95 for the Surface Pro Cases.  Check out UrbanArmorGear.com to check their selection of Cases and Colors they have to choose from.
