GCI Selects G+D Mobile Security for eSIM Management
DULLES, Va., March 22, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — General Communications Inc. (GCI) is known for its pioneering efforts in wireless, cable, TV, telephone and commercial services, being the first to offer product bundles in the state of Alaska – serving rural communities as well as consumer and business markets. In order to maintain the pulse on future development, GCI works in partnership with leading technology providers. Recently, GCI selected G+D Mobile Security for the latest in network security technology: AirOn Go, G+D Mobile Security’s hosted eSIM management solution.
Many new connected devices, like the recently launched Apple Watch and some IoT devices, don’t have a slot for a pluggable SIM, but are instead capable of connecting to cellular networks via eSIM technology. Providing the carrier-unique credentials securely over-the-air for these devices is a development which G+D Mobile Security has been leading, both in numbers of network operators as well as the overwhelming majority of eSIMs provided into the market.
With its AirOn Go hosted eSIM solution, G+D Mobile Security is amplifying the market adoption of eSIM technologies for carriers of all sizes. With AirOn Go, GCI will now be able to remotely provision and manage consumer and enterprise eSIM devices seamlessly in their network.
“We are excited about moving into the next generation of the digital world with eSIM technologies,” commented Dan Boyette, Vice President of Consumer Business, GCI. “Remote, secure eSIM management is the future of connectivity, and we’re pleased to partner again with G+D Mobile Security to implement a solution that will scale up for GCI over time to allow us to remain competitive in the market and stay relevant for our customers.”
“G+D was a pioneer in eSIM deployments as early as 2012 – before the GSMA standards were published,” says Edgar Salib, President and Americas Regional Head of G+D Mobile Security. “Since then, we have supported automotive, IoT, tablet, watch and smartphone makers as well as Tier 1 network operators to make eSIM technology easier to implement. eSIM technology enables next gen, connected IoT devices to be smaller, more resistant to the elements and ultimately more secure. With AirOn Go, we were first to market with a solution for the Competitive Carriers market.”
G+D Mobile Security’s AirOn Go is based on the latest GSMA Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP) Phase 2 specifications for eSIM management. Additionally, AirOn Go managed services are generated from a GSMA SAS-SM (Security Accreditation Scheme Subscription Management) facility based in the United States.
