Lanner and ADVA are Partnering to Deliver Industry Leading Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), and Software Defined Networking (SDN) Solutions
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Since the publication of the original ETSI NFV whitepaper in 2012, Lanner Electronics and ADVA Optical Networking SE have been driving the migration from proprietary hardware architectures toward open, programmable and scalable NFV solutions. Over the last year, Lanner Electronics and ADVA have been working together to enable communication service providers (CSPs) in their migration toward universal customer premise (uCPE) deployments. Combining industry-leading compute and networking platforms based on the latest Intel C3000 series CPU along with advanced data acceleration toolkits, such as Intel DPDK and SRIOV, Lanner and ADVA are placing CSPs on the right path to network transformation.
A key component of these next generation NFV/SDN-based solutions is the ability to leverage commercial off the shelf (COTS) hardware platforms to simplify the NFV deployment model. This disaggregation of hardware and software elements is critical for enabling uCPE deployments, which are gaining popularity as an efficient and flexible way of deploying enterprise and residential communications services – including popular features like SD-WAN. However, the migration to uCPE also requires a flexible and scalable network operating system, which is responsible for providing a framework for network connectivity as well as management and orchestration of highly distributed Virtual Network Functions (VNFs). ADVA’s Ensemble Connector provides the network OS layer that provides the NFV framework on the Lanner COTS platform.
“Simplifying the network edge is a clear mission of the ADVA Ensemble product strategy. In conjunction with ADVA, Lanner provides a variety of leading hardware platforms that support a wide range of use cases at the network edge, bringing together advanced networking and network computing expertise to the platform solution,” said Sven Freudenfeld, Global Director Business Development for the Telecom Application Business Unit at Lanner.
“While NFV enables the disaggregation of hardware and software, it is important to maintain coordination between hardware and software components to ensure that the solution is reliable, easy to deploy and end user requirements are met. By combining the market leading capabilities of ADVA and Lanner, we are enabling CSPs to transition to a new more efficient business model,” said Mike Heffner, VP PLM Ensemble.
Both companies are at Mobile World Congress showcasing their latest platforms and solutions. The Lanner solutions can be seen at Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona, February 26 to March 1st at Booth number 7E2. ADVA solutions can be seen in Hall 7 H31.
