Sprint Magic Box Wins 2018 Global Mobile Award for Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Sprint Magic Box, the world’s first all-wireless small cell, which improves data coverage and increases download and upload speeds on average by 200 percent,1 won a 2018 Global Mobile (GLOMO) Award for Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough at Mobile World Congress.
“We’re thrilled for Sprint Magic Box to receive this prestigious GLOMO Award for cutting-edge innovation in mobile technology,” said John Saw, Sprint CTO. “This breakthrough product comprises one of the largest small cell installations in the U.S. due to its simplicity of installation. Sprint Magic Box is an important tool as we build out our Next-Gen Network and we’re excited about the tremendous difference it is making for our customers.”
The award is shared with Airspan Networks, which designed and manufactured the Magic Box in collaboration with Sprint. The GLOMO judges noted, “With this solution, the partnership has successfully addressed the small cell deployment issues around speed, ease and cost.”
Sprint Magic Box provides average indoor coverage of up to 30,000 square feet, but its signal also extends data coverage to Sprint customers nearby in homes and other businesses. Within minutes of plugging the equipment into an outlet, most customers have a better data experience while streaming videos, surfing the web, and using their favorite online apps and services. The company recently hit a milestone of 100,000 deployed Sprint Magic Boxes to businesses and consumers in approximately 200 cities. Sprint plans to deploy more than 1 million units as part of its multi-year roadmap.
“Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees of the 2018 GLOMO Awards,” said Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA. “The GLOMOs recognise the best of the best in mobile, highlighting the technologies, products, companies and individuals that are pushing the boundaries of ingenuity and innovation and creating a better future for all of us.”
The award is the second since October for Sprint Magic Box, which also won Small Cell Technology Innovation of the Year from Mobile Breakthrough, an independent organization that recognizes top companies, technologies and products in the global wireless and mobile markets.
Sprint is also celebrating another initiative – the connected Wallet Card, manufactured by Dynamics Inc. – which received three GLOMO nominations, more than any product in this year’s show. Sprint is providing IoT technology, support and expertise, in addition to being the only telecommunications entity to power the world’s first secure, connected payment card.
