BitTorrent Launches µTorrent Web, the Next Generation of Torrenting

SAN FRANCISCOSept. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — BitTorrent, Inc., the company behind the world’s most popular p2p communications protocol, today announced the official release of µTorrent Web, a Web-based torrent client for Windows that helps users quickly download and play torrent files inside their browser. The product, available to download at utorrent.com, is compatible with all major browsers and delivers both novice and experienced users a torrent download experience with near instant playing.

“Our vision for µTorrent Web was to build a torrent client with quick playability and simplicity at its core,” said Justin Knoll, VP of Product at BitTorrent. “Through years of serving the BitTorrent community with products used by hundreds of millions of users, we took our passion and experience to build a torrent client that meets the streaming demands of today’s users.”

While BitTorrent has seen a strong increase in demand from the community for µTorrent Web, the company still sees continued demand for its desktop version of µTorrent, also known as µTorrent Classic. The company, which makes both products available on utorrent.com, has long term plans to continue development across both products. Plans to launch BitTorrent Web, a similar product, are in the works and will soon be available on bittorrent.com.
