HeartGuide, the highly-anticipated first wearable blood pressure monitor from Omron, available for pre-order on December 20th

LAKE FOREST, Ill.Dec. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Omron Healthcare, the number one doctor and pharmacist recommended blood pressure monitor brand, will open pre-orders for its new HeartGuide™, the first wearable blood pressure monitor, on December 20th at 12:00pm EST in the United States on OmronHealthcare.com. HeartGuide, an oscillometric blood pressure monitor in the design of a wrist watch, was recently cleared by the FDA for availability as a personal medical device.

“Omron is excited to begin pre-order access to HeartGuide. Since Omron first announced this device, we have received countless messages from consumers expressing interest. As a medical-grade blood pressure device in the form of a wrist watch, HeartGuide is a breakthrough for the category and for those who want to keep a close watch on their blood pressure anytime, anywhere. HeartGuide is a key way Omron is advancing our mission of Going for Zero heart attacks and strokes,” said Omron Healthcare, Inc. President and CEO, Ranndy Kellogg.

HeartGuide functions as a digital wrist watch and uses oscillometric measurement through an innovative design – a cuff in the watch band inflates to measure clinically accurate systolic and diastolic pressure. The oscillometric method is the FDA-recognized standard for accurate, automated, medical-grade personal blood pressure measurement. Omron filed more than 80 new patents in pioneering new components for HeartGuide. Some of the miniature blood pressure pumps, valves and chips in the device are no larger than a grain of rice.

In addition to taking blood pressure measurement, HeartGuide tracks daily activity such as steps, distance and calories burned, and quality of sleep. It also provides basic smartwatch functionality such as time, date, notifications of texts, emails and calls, and the ability to set event reminders. HeartGuide will be available for $499 (USD) pre-order only in the United States on OmronHealthcare.com, with retail availability beginning January 8, 2019.

HeartGuide will connect with an all-new, proprietary mobile app from Omron which will help users understand how their lifestyle impacts their heart health. The companion mobile app, (also arriving in January), will be free to download with the purchase of an Omron HeartGuide, will translate what blood pressure readings mean and provide personalized insights and actionable steps to take action for better heart health.

“Because blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day, regular self-monitoring empowers consumers to take immediate action on their heart health numbers and fuels a more productive patient-physician dialogue to evolve treatments and improve outcomes,” said Kellogg. “Studies show regular self-monitoring can reduce stroke risk by up to 20 percent and cut the risk of coronary artery disease by 10 percent1. We created HeartGuide and its accompanying app, HeartAdvisor, to reduce those risks and to help save lives.”

According to American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology guidelines, 103 million U.S. adults are living with high blood pressure, nearly 1 in 2, and as many as 13 millionare unaware they are living with this health condition.
