First and foremost, the VIP team needed an amplifier with ample power to drive the front stage speakers and subwoofer—no rear channels were used in this vehicle, and they wanted a premium quality amplifier with onboard DSP for fine-tuning the system. The AudioControl D-6.1200 was the ideal solution—a 6-channel bridgeable amplifier used for the Wrangler in 5-channel mode.
This configuration enabled the VIP team to power the highly efficient 8-Ohm horns with channels 1 and 2 and the 2-Ohm midbass drivers with channels 3 and 4 at 200-Watts per channel—and they bridged channels 5 and 6 to achieve 400-Watts of output to a JL Audio 10-nch, dual 8-Ohm voice coil subwoofer nestled in a custom enclosure behind the rear seat. The horns were located beneath the dash with custom grilles and the 6.5-inch midbass drivers were installed in the factory speaker locations, which were modified to accommodate the new drivers.
