StreamUnlimited adds AirPlay 2 support to StreamSDK

VIENNAApril 12, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — StreamUnlimited continues to advance StreamSDK, the world’s most flexible and feature rich software solution for digital audio technology, with the native integration of AirPlay 2. With AirPlay 2, customers can wirelessly stream music from an iOS device, Apple TV, HomePod, or by asking Siri. This new integration brings AirPlay 2 to StreamUnlimited’s wide array of audio product manufacturers, producing smart speakers, multichannel soundbars, AVRs and more. AirPlay gives consumers a great listening experience, including multi-room audio to enabled speakers, in perfect synch, enhanced buffering for faster playback, and Siri control directly from iOS devices.

Markus Rutz, CTO, StreamUnlimited, said:

“We are proud to be working closely with Apple development teams for AirPlay 2 to deliver native implementation to our industry leading brand customers, and are excited to see the impact that this feature has already had in the marketplace. Enabling consumers to control their products in a multi-room scenario using iOS devices and Siri marks a significant progression for Apple and allows our customers to stay at the forefront of a highly competitive marketplace”.

Petros Belimpasakis, Director of Product Management, Bang & Olufsen, said:

“Bang & Olufsen have relied on StreamUnlimited’s expertise in wireless audio streaming for multiple product generations, helping us to bring high quality and unique designs to market using the StreamSDK software platform.

The range of speaker products, released in 2018, included the Beosound Edge and Beosound 1 which were among the first products launched with AirPlay 2. While we also brought the feature, as a software update, to 10 of our existing products, making Bang & Olufsen the brand with the most AirPlay 2 products deployed in the market. We were very proud to be pioneering exciting new feature implementations like AirPlay 2 not only with our new product designs, but also catering for existing customers.”

Alongside the StreamSDK software integration, StreamUnlimited also enabled AirPlay 2 on hardware platforms across major SOC suppliers. This offers product manufacturers the option to continue with a preferred platform, or to transition to a more powerful, futureproof option that creates some flexibility when planning for the multitude of new features emerging for audio, multichannel decoding and voice assistant applications.

Brands and ODMs looking to bring AirPlay 2 to their next products can visit StreamUnlimited at Hong Kong Electronics Fair from 13-16th April. For more information contact tradeshows@streamunlimited.com.
