Texas Students to Speak with NASA Astronaut on International Space Station

Students in Texas will have an opportunity next week to speak with a NASA astronaut aboard the International Space Station. The Earth-to-space call will air live on NASA television and the agency’s website.

Nick Hague will answer questions from students from three schools in the Houston Independent School District (HISD) — Davila Elementary, Deady Middle School and Milby High School — at 12:20 p.m. EDT Wednesday, May 22. The district has partnered with the Office of STEM Engagement at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, under a U.S. Department of Education Magnet School Assistance Program grant.

The event will take place at Milby High School, 1601 Broadway St., Houston. Media interested in covering should contact Alex Gregoire at agregoir@houstonisd.org or 713-928-7401.

Linking students directly to astronauts aboard the space station provides unique, authentic experiences designed to enhance student learning, performance and interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Astronauts living in space on the orbiting laboratory communicate with NASA’s Mission Control Center in Houston 24 hours a day through the Space Network’s Tracking and Data Relay Satellites.
