Technological Advances From Ticker-Tape to the Smartphone
Technology Developments
In 1863, investors could sit by their ticker-tape machines to keep up with their investments. Those were the days of innovation, and those ticker-tape machines were a real way investors could keep a live track of what was taking place on Wall Street. Thomas Edison entered the technology age through the door of morse code and the way of wireless communication that was beginning to develop. Thomas Edison got on the ticker-tape bandwagon also and invested his version of the ticker-tape. Then there came a radio, and that changed everything.
Wall Street Goes Live
The live broadcasts and reporters that were fluent in all of the language reflective of the active life was sent out on radio waves. Then came the IBM 610 in 1948 and we thought we had finally arrived at the apex of keeping track of finances and all the trading taking place on Wall Street. There was more in the technological pipeline for investors that was just about to appear that would bing investing in another current stage of development. The MOS transistors had been developed at Bell Labs since the early 1950s. Huge events moved forward when the electronics became smaller and smaller. Entrepreneurs found ways to put millions of these tiny transistors together into functional units called silicon chips. The door of the smartphone revolution swung wide open in the 1990s.
Lithium-Ion Battery
MOS technology from Bell Labs had opened the door to smartphone technology. Bell Labs discovered something had jammed the door shut from the outside. Discovery of a power source to give the smartphone the operating power it needed to generate electricity was required. Three bright Sony employees, Goodenough, Yazami, and Yazino, invented the lithium-ion battery in the 1980s. Finally, the log jam of the lithium-ion battery smartphone technology broke through the door of advanced technology, and the flood gates of the era of the smartphone were released. There have been steady developments to the lithium-ion battery until today.
Hyperinflation
The earliest cases of hyperinflation can be traced back to Hungary in the early 1940s, but there have been cases in the 1980s that have had tremendous results on the modern economy. As a result of hyperinflation, investors are unable to get a clear reading of foreign currency values. Hyperinflation is quick and very high inflation of a currency usually caused by stress in government policies or foreign policies causing pressure on the economy. Forex investors sell their currencies sometimes at a reduced price during hyperinflation. Hyperinflation is caused by the government when it prints money and causes the economy to rise. Economists say when the demand exceeds the supply by about 50%, hyperinflation is the result. Even as early as the late 1800s, there were signs of hyper valuation in the market investors needed to observe.
Enter the Smartphone Revolution
Many of these technology advances happened in different locations, but entrepreneurs began putting the pieces together from different places. Jobs and Wozniak began to understand the parts of the puzzle and were ready for a desktop revolution. Gates and Allen did the same thing with the emergence of software for computers but from another location. Ways to keeps up with investments didn’t stop at the personal computer because all of that technology made another huge leap when Steve Jobs introduced the smartphone at an Apple Conference.
Workhorses of Technology
Software developers were quick to port all of their algorithms for finances straight to the smartphone. Today we can keep track of any stock, bond, or index at the sound of our voice. All we need to do is say, “Alexa, what is AAPL stock today?” and we give a quick answer. Our new smartphone technology has made it so easy to invest or trade stocks. The smartphone has taken personal investing to a new and more advanced stage of getting to the stocks we want first. IoT is another technology breakthrough that has allowed the internet, advanced computer chip development, and the connecting of all things digital to connect the entire world. IoT development has mostly made the door of technology into a double barn door so that tremendous technological advances can be driven through at lightning speeds.
Foreign Exchanges
The stock market is zooming along, and all the latest technology is being used to help us keep track of our investments. The foreign exchange market is another financial that has been deeply affected by the internet and smartphone technology. We have smartphone apps that allow any person to contact the foreign exchange market and compare foreign currencies to get the best prices for making forex investments. Any time of day or night, a forex trader can keep track of all the movements of his franc, mark, yen, or peso right from his smartphone. That is a long way from the ticker-tape marker.
