5 Ideas About 5G In 2020

January 23, 2020 There is a good chance that you have already heard that mysterious term 5G. To be fair, it’s not as mysterious as it might sound. Ian Fogg, mobile data analytic from OpenSignal, puts it simply: ”Whatever we do now with our smartphones we’ll be able to do faster and better.” But what 5G can bring for our daily lives? Here are 5 ideas floating on the internet for you to consider.

#1 Idea: Health Monitoring

While some people highlight the speed of 5G, another important part is that the steady streaming. Devices will be able to transfer all the data right away. It can be extremely beneficial in the health industry. Wearable technologies will be able to monitor the situation in real-time. And get help if needed.

It is beneficial for everyone. But especially for those who are living in remote places. AT&T Business specifies: “For people in rural areas, with doctors located several miles away, traveling while ill can be challenging and time-consuming. With the advent of telehealth and remote home monitoring systems, though, we could receive care from the comfort of our homes.”

#2 Idea: Search And Rescue

People tend to avoid ideas about accidents, but the truth is that they can happen to anyone. And in those scenarios, it’s better to be prepared. When someone is missing, searching operations begin. Up until now, mostly people and dogs do the work. But with 5G improvements, drones can become as good or even better in searching operations.

Such a prototype already exists. Emergency Rescue Platform “Skyship” can carry up to eight drones that use high-definition cameras and thermal imaging to search for signs of life in disaster zones. Such drones can also carry first aid kits, which can be used by conscious rescuee or first responders before the emergency arrive.

#3 Idea: Augmented Reality

Augmented reality isn’t exactly an innovation. For example, museums are already using it to present additional content for exhibits. Interior designers also use AR to virtually place furniture in a room to see how it matches.

But 5G can make it accessible in more varied circumstances. Arnas Stuopelis, Chairman of web hosting provider Hostinger, explains: “5G will allow implementing AR anywhere. You won’t have to rely on wi-fi anymore. It will enable small businesses to innovate, to use AR in their shops, in outdoor environments, or any other locations without the necessity to provide steady wi-fi.”

#4 Idea: Even Smarter Cars

When people think about smart cars, they imagine self-driving ones. But with the implementation of 5G, those cars can become even smarter. With the steady 5G network, cars can communicate with each other and share all the relevant information. Some vehicles are already able to share their location, speed, and direction. But in the future cars will arrange merging into lanes or turning at stop signs.

#5 Idea: Even Smarter Cities

Just like cars, cities will also become smarter. Different parts of the city would be able to communicate and solve or even prevent various problems. When using data-gathering sensors, it would be possible to spot occurring jams and inform smart cars about them. Traffic lights could adjust their timing to allow more vehicles to pass. Extra lanes could be opened when in need.

By being smarter, cities can become greener. Techradar explains: “Using data gathered on pedestrian and vehicle habits, street lamps could be dimmed or even switched off in low-traffic areas, instead only activating when a person is detected walking nearby.”

People might not understand how exactly does 5G work. But it shouldn’t stop them from taking advantage out of it. It can be helpful for remote health monitoring. It can save lives in search and rescue operations. It can boost small businesses with the ability to use AR. And it can make our cars and even cities smarter.
