Southern Telecom Performs Significant Fiber Network Build for Large Metropolitan City in the Southeast

ATLANTA, May 12, 2020 – Southern Telecom, Inc. (STI), a subsidiary of Southern Company, announces that a large metropolitan city in the Southeast has selected STI to construct a fiber cable between two properties that are owned and managed by the municipality. The City issued a Request for Proposal for the fiber network build that would offer reliable fiber connections between the city and its offices. Following a stringent RFP process, the City ultimately selected STI for its network design that will allow its new network cable to be housed in STI’s unique conduit network, located within a legacy steam system.

“We are excited to work with this major metropolitan city here in the Southeast; a city that recognizes the value and importance of having a reliable fiber network infrastructure. The new cable will allow the city to enhance Emergency Management Departments communications, which will result in quicker response times for citizens,” comments Michael Lamar, Carrier Account Executive for STI. “STI’s unique steam system allows the city to have a secure and protected network that exceeds today’s construction requirements, and what other network providers in the area are able to offer. Additionally, STI’s close proximity allows our team to quickly respond to the city’s network maintenance and expansion needs.”

The fiber build project was completed in late 2019. The City plans to leverage STI’s services and expertise for future fiber network infrastructure builds and upgrades.

STI markets more than 2,600 route miles in the southeast, which is anchored by its robust conduit and dark fiber metro network in Atlanta.
