Time to watch: Huawei Watch GT2 Pro review
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all. This is the season for great deals and amazing presents.
With so many watch options out there what do you get? Apple Watch? Samsung Watch? Android Wear options? Or the more common nowadays, an active fitness tracker smartwatch? That can only be answered by you, based on your needs.
Apple and Samsung users lean toward brand matching for ecosystems. Some want a high-end watch with Android. Others don’t care about those things and want to get a quality fitness tracker with style. Therefore I am not going to tell you what you should want. I am going to tell you what I thought about a watch loaned to me to review.
We will cover these topics.
- Style and comfort
- Function and compatibility
- Pros and cons
- Final thoughts
Style and comfort.
I do not normally wear a watch to be clear. They normally do not fit unless I buy a metal band and add links. ( I am kind of a freak of nature BTW) So there is a box. I opened the box, it was square, and had stuff in it. In the box, there was a watch, charger (magnetic), and paperwork. Enough said about unboxing. Now the watch itself is stunning right from the get-go. Titanium (grey) was the version I got with the Gray Brown Leather Strap. The dials on the body (right side) were textures and had a satisfying click letting your fingers know you succeeded in the depression of your button of choice. Also, dials turn smooth and were made of metal as well. When you power it on you see setup instructions. Now I will talk more about this in a bit. After setup, the screen shows you a beautiful display. Bright colors and deep contrasts. Front and back have you covered in sapphire No struggling to see this watch face. On the back of the watch, you have all your sensors and a glossy ceramic to help reduce skin irritation and germs collection to a minimum. Minus the fact I had to use the last hole on the watchband, it was still extremely comfortable even when you are more aggressive at the gym. Overall classy look and feel. No creeks and feels premium. I high quality look and feel
Function and compatibility.
As smartwatches evolve from basic monitoring for your phone to lifestyle tracking this does not hold back. Tech in this watch matches up with any other top-end watches. For tracking health, it comes equipped with upgraded LEDs and four photodiodes collaborate with intelligent AI algorithms, effectively lowering the power consumption while accurately measuring SpO2 or heart rate. When working out at the gym I can set different workout tracking. There are over 100 workout modes from running, climbing, and strength. It updates you every 10 minutes of how much time you been exercising. One of my favorite things was tracking your heart rate during the workout and letting you know what stage your body is in such as active fat burning as an example.
If you have a Huawei Phone there are some cool added features. Like shutter. To you can use a tripod or set up a phone somewhere in the room and use the watch to take photos. You can then tap your phone to the watch to transfer the photo to the watch for a wallpaper.
There is a stress tracking application as well. It asks you some baseline questions to set your norm and the if your stats influx like heart rate it will track that increase stress and notify you.
The watch uses a Huawei software. No not google. Through the Huawei health app you can download different apps and watch faces to customize your experience. It will work on Apple and Android through the Huawei health app.
If you can sleep with a watch on there is a sleep monitor. I cannot sleep with a watch on so I can not talk to this but here is a description from Huawei “your HUAWEI WATCH GT 2 Pro can scientifically track and diagnose 6 common types of sleep issues while providing suggestions for better rest.6 And, while you sleep, the watch monitors your heart rate, analyses your breathing and awards a score on your overall sleep quality.”
Wireless Charger is fast battery is pretty bonkers. They say up to 2 weeks battery but that’s if you have all setting to low and not use many features. I would get about a week of active use.
You also have the ability to toss some music on there with built in storage about 4gb. The watch also has a speaker. Sounds decent for such a small speaker. With that speaker and the built-in mic you can make calls. Which made me feel like Dick Tracy (super old movie look it up it’s a classic).
Pro and cons.
Pros
- Beautiful look and style
- Great battery
- Bright display
- Solid construction
- Great health tracker
- Unique features for Huawei owners
Cons
- Limited apps and functions compare to android ware or watchOS
- Band size to small for bigger people.
- Will work with apple and android but will not have same feature as Huawei phones.
Final Thoughts
This is a beautiful watch with amazing battery, Solid health monitoring and feature rich in the health space.
This smartwatch is not for someone who would want an apple watch or gear watch replacement. In my opinion it is far better then the fit bit as it has a strong health focus and looks way better. If you want to replace your Fitbit or Garmin watch this is the one you want to get. If you want something simpler and way more battery versus apple or Samsung this is the one to get.
Keep an eye out for deals on boxing day. I would be shocked if you did not love this watch based on what I have said above.
