Personalized Notification App Developed by Clark County Students Wins CES 2020 Future Innovators Business Pitch Competition
Unotify, a personalized notification app developed by three Clark County students, won the Future Innovators business pitch competition hosted by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® at CES® 2020 – the largest, most influential tech show in the world. CES is open to consumer technology professionals who are at least 18 years of age.
The competition, which included three teams from Nevada’s Clark County, is part of CTA’s larger commitment to inspire students to pursue entrepreneurial careers. The students presenting during CES® 2020 were selected at a preliminary competition of 25 teams on November 19, 2019. The winning team from Las Vegas Academy, Unotify, developed an app that syncs to the users’ calendar to change phone notification settings based on scheduled events.
“Motivating and strengthening the entrepreneurial spirit of children at a young age will help close the skills gap and give students the tools they need to be leaders tomorrow,” said Jennifer Taylor, vice president, industry affairs, CTA. “Each and every business idea presented on the CES stage today was inspiring, and I want to congratulate all of them.”
Students who participated in the competition completed CTA’s Future Innovators program – developed and delivered by social impact education innovator EVERFI, Inc., – that provides a digital curriculum resource to high school students across Clark County. The goal of the program is to drive students to explore careers in entrepreneurship and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). To help accomplish this, CTA hosts a business pitch competition where students who have completed the course can pitch their business in front of industry leaders.
The judges panel was Noa Davidson of AWS; Kim Folsom of First Capital Partners; and Tiffany Moore, senior vice president, political and industry affairs, CTA.
BitLoop, an extracurricular computer science program; and YAM – Quokka Savings, a finance management app also competed in today’s competition finals. More than 7,000 Clark County students across 127 classrooms have participated in the program over the past five years.
