Among Gibson’s most revered achievements are the original 1950s “Patent Applied For” (PAF) humbuckers™, widely regarded as the holy grail of humbucking tone. Developed with Kirk Hammett’s guidance and built from specifications taken directly from the actual PAF humbuckers on that world-renowned guitar, the Aged Greenybucker set is designed to deliver the instantly recognizable sonic signature that made “Greeny” famous. From the nuanced response of asymmetrical coil windings to the dynamic feel of unpotted construction, every detail is aimed at recreating the expressive, touch-sensitive personality players associate with vintage originals—right down to the cosmetics, which are aged to perfection by the Murphy Lab for an authentic, road-worn look. The rhythm pickup’s reverse magnetic polarity is the key ingredient in capturing the signature “Greeny” middle-switch texture—an unmistakable tonal fingerprint that has inspired players for decades and remains one of the most celebrated quirks in electric guitar history.
