4 Ways To Protect Your Eyes From Computer Screens

Nowadays, there are times where it seems like you can’t get away from a computer screen even if you tried. While technology has certainly made parts of our lives easier, there’s no denying that it comes with its own set of problems to deal with. One problem that many people suffer from is eye strain. This issue comes from the light that beams into our eyes from computer screens. Here are four ways to protect your eyes from computer screens that will help you even if you need to stare at them for long periods.

Take Regular Breaks From Your Screens

It should go without saying that the best way to protect your eyes from computer screens is to tear yourself away from them whenever you can. This isn’t always possible, though, as many people work on computers and have hobbies that involve screens. So, the best thing to do is follow the 20/20/20 rule. For every 20 minutes looking at a screen, look at something at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This helps your eyes readjust and not take in so much harmful blue light from your screen.

Remember To Blink

There’s actually a strange phenomenon that many people experience when looking at a screen for a long time. You may get so wrapped up in what’s on the screen that your eyes will stop blinking regularly. This is harmful due to a multitude of reasons. But it all boils down to the fact that blinking helps protect your eye’s health. If you look at a screen all day, try to be a little more cognizant of how much you are or are not blinking.

Use Blue Light Glasses

You don’t have to be a hardcore tech wizard to benefit from blue light glasses. These specially treated lenses help filter out the harmful blue light that emits from computer screens. Glasses with these lenses help people that have no choice but to stare at screens all day, which is why you see them often on people who work in computer science or programming. They’re a great investment in your health if you know you won’t be able to avoid looking at screens for long periods.

Change the Screen’s Settings

Regardless of size, most computer screens have visual options that you can change to customize the experience. Adjusting options like brightness, contrast, and sharpness can help your eyes work less hard to decipher the images that appear on the screen. The less work your eyes need to do, the less likely you’ll experience any eye strain.
