Top 3 Tips for Reducing Echo in Your Home

When searching for the source of unwanted echoes in your home, there are a few places to look. Reflective surfaces such as tile, hardwood, glass, and stone reverberate sound throughout the property. High ceilings also let noise in, but letting these sounds ruin your day is no way to live. Here are a few tips for reducing echo in your home to boost your peace of mind.

Cover Your Floor With a Rug

In addition to keeping your feet cozy and warm, rugs also reduce echo. Carpets and rugs absorb echoes by deadening sound reflection in a room.

Tile, hardwood, and other reflective types of flooring allow sound waves to bounce all over your home. For a fashionable yet practical solution, place an area rug at the room’s center with a design that matches the rest of your décor. Make sure to consider rug material when choosing the one that will suit your home best.

Keep Your Walls and Windows Silent

Two overlooked sources of echo in your home are walls and windows. Glass in your windows and tile on your walls can turn your home into an echo chamber. The solution is lining your windows with thick curtains and drapes that go from floor to ceiling. Curtains and drapes help muffle the sounds and ambient noise that chatter throughout the area.

Large paintings, wall decorations, and tapestries help reduce echo coming off the wall. However, artwork and framed pictures with glass enclosures will reverberate sound just like your windows.

Add Furniture To Reduce Noise

Large objects within a room cut down on the amount of space through which echoes can travel. Furniture such as couches, beds, reclining chairs, and other types of cushioned seating will absorb sound quite well. In addition, fabric upholstery does a much better job at making noise disappear than leather or vinyl.

The more filled a room is, the less space there is for soundwaves to travel, so filling up a bookshelf and placing it in the room helps too. Other examples of accessories that reduce noise are pillows, blankets, towels, and tablecloths. So, now that you know some tips for reducing echo in your home, you can eliminate that invisible pest once and for all!
