Hands On: Fenix PD36 TAC Tactical Flashlight
If your in the market for a new flashlight have you checked out Fenix? We have reviewed a couple of their other lights and were plesantly suprised, and the Fenix PD36 TAC Tactical Flashlight was no different.
The PD36 TAC Tactical Flashlight works great for everyday use, as well as in tactical situations, as the name suggests. This flashlight is powered by a ARB-L21-5000U li-ion battery. This battery is rechargable via a USB-C cable that is included in the package. The Bulb is an LED Bulb for long life. The body is made from an Aluminum Alloy with an Anodized finish.
There are Two different modes on the flashlight. There is Duty mode, and Tactical Mode. If you look at the flashlight, there is also a lockout mode. In Lockout Mode, the PD36 TAC will not turn on. This way, if it is in your bag or somewhere that the button could be bumped, it will not drain the battery. To switch modes, you just turn the end-cap. Turn one direction and you are in tactical mode, put to the middle, you are in lockout, and turn the other direction you are in Duty Mode.
Tactical mode gives you an light output of 2000 Lumens or Strobe mode. At 2000 Lumens. the light will last for 3 Hours and 10 Minutes from a full charge. This gives you a very bright light that you know will last while you are out in the wood, or working a SWAT call.
ECO Mode gives you more settings for daily use. There are 5 different light settings as well as the Strobe function. You have 30, 150, 350, 1000, and 3000 Lumen settings. In ECO Mode(30 Lumen), the battery will last up to 30 hours, and in Turbo Mode (3000 Lumen), you have 1 Hour 30 Minutes of use. In the tow images below, you can see the light output at 30 Lumen and 2000 Lumen. The pictures were takin at the same distance one right after the other.
For ease of carrying, the PD36 TAC has a belt holster that is included in the package, as well as a belt clip on the flashlight itself. This gives you multiple ways of carrying the Flashlight, whether it be on your duty belt, or just in your pocket.
The PD36 TAC Tactical flashlight is also made to be durable for most situations. The Flashlight can withstand drops up to 1 Meter, and can handle being submerged under water up to 2 Meters. It has a IP68 dustproof/waterproof rating. This is a flashlight that can withstand daily use. as well as most tactical situations( In my not police officer opinion).
If you are looking for a Duty Flashlight that is lightweight, the PD36 TAC Tactical Flashlight come in at a light 3.24 OZ without the battery. The Flashlight itself is 5.5 Inches from front to back of the push button. The Flashlight is also compatable with gun mounts sold seperatly from Fenix.
The Fenix PD36 TAC Tactical Flashlight sells for $99.95 in the Standard Edition we reviewed Head over to Fenix-Store.com and check out all the great Flashlight options they offer.
While many might think that $100 is too much for a flashlight when you can just run to your local big box store and pick up one for $2.00, remember that this flashlight is not a cheap run of the mill disposable flashlight. It has a rechargeable battery so you don’t have to buy a new battery for the life of the battery, but it is also IP68 Rated so a little water and dust won’t ruin the light.
