Korean sleep tech company Asleep teams up with Amazon Alexa on sleep health wellness
Korean sleep tech startup Asleep announced an upcoming CES 2022 collaboration with Amazon Alexa, Amazon’s cloud-based voice service available on Amazon Echo and other Alexa-enabled devices. Asleep is a sleep tech company with sleep monitoring AI software and personalized sleep health app that anyone can use from the comfort of their home.
Asleep is also one of the latest companies selected to participate in Alexa Startups, a program that supports founders through startup programs, business development, and technical support. Asleep’s skill, Sleepvice, for Amazon Alexa will connect to Asleep’s sleep tracking app to help users understand their sleep score and other metrics like total sleep efficiency, wake frequency, time in sleep and many more. Users can link their Asleep account to the Sleepvice skill on Amazon Alexa, and ask things like “Alexa, ask Sleepvice to start my sleep recording”, “Alexa, ask Sleepvice how my sleep was last night,” or “Alexa, aske Sleepvice, when did I fall asleep last night”. Asleep’s Sleepvice skill will be available for customers in the US and South Korea in January 2022.
● Implementing a sleep tech skill for Alexa
Asleep will be implementing its sleep technology on smart speakers powered by Amazon Alexa. With the skill, customers can start various activities by voice which include setting up an alarm or checking on the quality of sleep. The skill will allow users to connect to the app to receive daily sleep report both on their phone and by voice.
The Asleep skill can be easily used by anyone with a smartphone and an Alexa speaker. “Asleep users can easily link their account with Alexa through the Alexa app. It is our goal to develop a skill which offers Asleep’s sleep tech service through this cooperative project,” said Yoon Pyo Koo, Technical Product Team Leader.
The goal of Asleep is to go beyond tracking and analyzing and to implement intervention technology for quality sleep. Su Young Kwon, Product Team Leader of Asleep, emphasized “No matter how well you measure and analyze individuals’ sleep pattern, the product can be irrelevant without adequate consideration of the actual needs of the users.”
Then she added: “The Asleep skill on Alexa focuses on connecting users to their sleep within a connected smart home. Asleep aims to easily deliver the experience of sound sleep using smart home capabilities like adjusting light, sound, or alarms as part of a customer’s sleep cycle and preferences.
“Asleep’s technology not only has an outstanding sleep tracking and analysis capabilities but also provides an effective “so what” solution based on data,” said Sang Hyun Lee, Chief Global Officer (CGO) who is currently leading the project, “which means users can continuously improve their sleep with data driven recommendations and personalized sleep interventions.”
● Domestic and international performance
Asleep is a startup that digitizes sleep accurately and conveniently. It is a fast-growing company which raised $1.75M series A investment from leading venture capitals in Korea including Kakao Ventures and InterVest within 10 months since its establishment. Asleep’s sleep technology accuracy of sleep tracking and analysis technology based on AI and Internet of Things (IoT) is partnered with prominent university hospital called Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) in Korea to validate medical-grade level accuracy.

We are also working to connect our sleep tracking and analysis technology to various devices such as lighting, air purifier, and motion beds that could be adjusted and personalized based on sleep preferences” he said.
The sleep tech market is seeing exponential growth of 40% annually and is estimated to be over 84.5 billion U.S. dollars in size. The market is stretching far beyond the existing sectors to monitoring, IT technologies which are applied to sleep aids such as lighting and diffuser, and treatment including digital therapeutics. Asleep is expected to hold a strong position in the market based on market growth and its unrivaled sleep sensing technology and other achievements.
