Atari’s Retro-Inspired Tempest 4000 Available Now on Atari VCS and Nintendo Switch

It’s time to feed your head to the web — again! Today, iconic video game publisher Atari announced the Atari VCS and Nintendo Switch launch of Tempest 4000™, the critically acclaimed, hyper-kinetic latest entry to one of the most popular arcade games of all time!

In Tempest 4000, the powerful Claw spacecraft returns, fully equipped to destroy deadly creatures and other obstructions with rapid-fire shots on vibrant geometric prisms. A psychedelic palette of eye-melting neon visuals and fast-paced shooter gameplay set to an adrenaline-pumping techno soundtrack awaits existing fans and new audiences in this collaborative love-letter project from legendary game designer Jeff Minter and Atari.

The original Tempest is considered one of the most beloved arcade titles in history and is hallmarked as one of the first video games to use 3D vector graphics. Featured notably across pop culture — including in Ernest Cline’s dystopian Ready Player One novel, Tempest 4000 remains authentic to the original while incorporating pulse-pounding new gameplay features.
