Don’t Be Bothered By “Are You Busy?” Again While At Work!

After continuous interruptions while at home working during the early days of the pandemic (how can we forget March 2020!), Steve Skillings was like many of us, frustrated with his productivity and constant interruptions. He also never knew when it was “safe” to disturb his wife who was in the same situation.

Steve played in a band and liked the idea of “on-air” signs. He thought, could this concept be adapted to help his WFH predicament? Yes, it could!

Using his engineering skills and a 3D printer, Steve created the prototype for BusyBoxSign in three days, then reached out to his software engineer buddy, Fess, to make it “smart.” The result is the first wireless smart sign created to improve your workspace, be it at home, in the office, or classroom.

The intelligently-designed device now comes in two models, including one with a digital screen to craft your own message (lots of room for creativity here!). A mobile app allows users to connect their third-party services and automate workflows with their chosen BusyBox. For instance, Google Calendar will update the BusyBox automatically with your status or ask Siri to turn the sign off now that your call is done. Brilliant!

A successful Indiegogo campaign raised over $330,000 and was backed by more than 2,400 people. The next step is an appearance on Shark Tank on April 8 and more plans on the horizon to develop additional products to help with productivity.

Staying productive and creative can be challenging, whether employed at home, doing homework, keeping areas quiet for naptime, or recording your fun podcast. BusyBox helps with everyday life and the challenges many of us face.

Steve is no stranger to adversity. A self-proclaimed nerd who barely drinks, never smoked, and exercises regularly, he was in for the fight of his life when diagnosed at 40 with Stage 4 Tonsil Cancer. A cancer survivor, he volunteered to help test a new drug that is now “the standard” for this type of cancer.

With cancer behind him, Shark Tank ahead, and new products waiting to be produced, Steve embraces every moment while he and Fess make it more productive for those around them.
