NASA Administrator, Deputy to Attend Farnborough Airshow

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson and Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy will attend the Farnborough International Airshow in the United Kingdom on Monday, July 18.

Nelson and Melroy are participating in several public events, including the following (all times BST):

  • 1:15 p.m. – Melroy will participate in a fireside chat moderated by Eric Fanning, president and chief executive officer of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA). The chat will take place at the USA Pavilion.
  • 2 p.m. – Melroy will participate in a panel hosted by the UK Space Agency titled, “Investment, Discovery, and Sustainability in the Global Space Economy.” The panel will take place at the UK Space Pavilion.
  • 2:45 p.m. – Nelson will speak at the USA Pavilion opening with United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Jane Hartley and former NASA astronaut Charlie Duke.

While at the air show, Nelson and Melroy also will meet with leaders from the U.S. aerospace sector regarding their partnership with the agency on critical NASA missions, including the Artemis lunar program and sustainable aviation goals.

NASA aeronautics is working to develop the technologies needed to save fuel, reduce emissions, enhance competitiveness, and get the flying public to their destinations faster and with fewer delays. Through the Sustainable Flight National Partnership, NASA is partnering with industry, academia, and others to accomplish the aviation community’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Last month, NASA announced it intends to fund one or more awards to design, build, test, and fly a large-scale demonstrator with an advanced airframe configuration, as well as related technologies. The agency’s Sustainable Flight Demonstrator project aims to reduce carbon emissions from aviation and ensure U.S. competitiveness in a high-demand area of aircraft design – single-aisle commercial airliners.
