Nordic Semiconductor showcases leading Bluetooth LE, Matter, low power Wi-Fi, and cellular IoT technology at CES 2023

On the ‘global stage for innovation’ Nordic will exhibit mature solutions for all the foundational technologies of the IoT plus its Matter 1.0, Wi-Fi locationing, Cloud location services, and Bluetooth LE Audio products 
Nordic Semiconductor will bring its full portfolio of wireless IoT products to CES 2023 
Oslo, Norway – December 22, 2022 – Nordic Semiconductor will bring its full portfolio of wireless IoT products to CES 2023 on booth 52039 at the Venetian Expo. Highlights on the booth will include the company’s Matter 1.0 solutions. Matter is a standard from the Connectivity Standards Alliance which brings interoperability to the fragmented smart home sector and is backed by major consumer technology vendors and semiconductor firms. In addition to Matter, Nordic will exhibit solutions for all the foundational technologies of the IoT including Bluetooth® Low Energy, Wi-Fi, and cellular IoT (NB-IoT and LTE-M). The booth will also include a demonstration of Bluetooth LE Audio (LE Audio) solutions. The world’s leading consumer electronics exhibition, CES is organized by the U.S.-based Consumer Technology Association (CTA) and will be held in Las Vegas, NV, from January 5 to 8, 2023. “This year, for the first time, Nordic will be using CES, the ‘global stage for innovation’, to demonstrate our entire wireless connectivity portfolio,” says Geir Langeland, EVP Sales & Marketing with Nordic Semiconductor. “We’ll exhibit our latest solutions in Bluetooth LE—the technology in which Nordic leads the world—to cellular IoT, where we’re disrupting the market with the compact and low power nRF9160, and Wi-Fi, where our new nRF7002 product is making waves. With this product portfolio, we are one of very few global firms bringing solutions for all three of the IoT’s foundation technologies. But more than that, CES 23 provides the chance for visitors to meet some of Nordic’s wireless connectivity experts who can show them how new technologies such as Matter and LE Audio will result in many amazing new applications.”  Nordic invites new and existing customers to come to its booth to experience a range of demonstrations and exhibits including how Matter will make it easy for developers to build secure, reliable, and interoperable smart home solutions. In addition to being a member of the Connectivity Standards Alliance Board and a Promoter Member of the Alliance, Nordic has been a key contributor to the Matter specification since 2019. Nordic’s customers are already developing Matter 1.0-compliant devices using the company’s nRF52840 and nRF5340 Systems-on-Chip (SoCs), which support Thread and Bluetooth LE. Matter prototype development is supported through the nRF52840 and nRF5340 DKs (development kits) and the nRF Connect SDK (software development kit). Nordic’s booth will also play host to demonstrations that will show how LE Audio will significantly enhance the sound quality and power consumption of wireless audio products.With the release of the nRF7002 Wi-Fi 6 Companion IC, Nordic brings decades of ultra low power wireless design expertise to Wi-Fi 6, a standard which offers efficiency gains to support long-life, battery-powered wireless IoT operation, and also forms an integral part of the Matter ecosystem. The nRF7002, in conjunction with Nordic’s nRF9160 System-in-Package (SiP) with integrated LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and GNSS, can also be used to perform Wi-Fi locationing. Wi-Fi locationing provides a solution to both indoor and outdoor asset tracking applications requiring lower power consumption than GNSS tracking can offer and with greater accuracy than cellular-based locationing.Other demonstrations on Nordic’s CES booth will feature nRF Cloud Location Services. The services enable customers access to Assisted and Predicted GPS location, or single- and multi-cell cellular base station location to support a full commercial location services model once their nRF9160 SiP-powered cellular IoT products are deployed. By offering a choice between Assisted and Predicted GPS, cellular, and Wi-Fi based location services, nRF Cloud Location Services enables customers to select the optimum trade-off between power consumption and accuracy to suit their application. For example, Assisted and Predicted GPS is very accurate, but uses more power than the other options. Cellular is power efficient, but is not as accurate as Assisted and Predicted GPS. Wi-Fi is power efficient and works well in urban areas, but requires nearby access points to work well.International CES boasts five decades of success. The 2023 event will feature over 2,500 exhibiting companies from 171 countries, territories and regions.
