PLASTIC OMNIUM ANNOUNCES THE CREATION OF OP’n Soft AND TAKES EMBEDDED SOFTWARE & SERVICES TO A NEW LEVEL
At CES 2023 in Las Vegas, Plastic Omnium has announced the creation of OP’n Soft, a totally new activity 100% dedicated to the development of software for its own products and services. OP’n Soft expects to employ 120 people this year – 250+ by 2025 – to focus on mobility solutions that are more electric, more connected, more autonomous, and more shared.
To support the transformation of its product portfolio, Plastic Omnium is accelerating the development of its software activity, particularly in interior and bodyshell lighting, electric power trains, batteries, hydrogen, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
Laurent Favre is Chief Executive Officer of Plastic Omnium: “OP’n Soft will enable Plastic Omnium to offer its customers a unique range of integrated solutions and services, such as merging radar data processing software with lighting technologies. This is an exciting new adventure for Plastic Omnium, and a wonderful opportunity for our teams to unleash their tech creativity.”
For Plastic Omnium, developing a new software activity comes with the implementation of the highest standards in the market, including ASPICE certification1 and AUTOSAR platforms2 that make it easier for its customers to access plug-n-play applications. Plastic Omnium will also leverage the latest AGILE methodologies and the benefits of DevSecOps3 in developing and supporting these future products and services.
All these initiatives prepare the Group effectively for making great strides towards development of the Software-Defined Vehicle, successfully addressing the constantly evolving challenges of vehicle cybersecurity, and anticipating future global certification standards for embedded software and its through-life updating.
Now with the five complementary divisions of body shell components, fuel tanks, modules, hydrogen, and lighting, and the newly created OP’n Soft, Plastic Omnium is well positioned to deliver even greater added value to its customers and fulfil its corporate purpose of Driving a New Generation of Mobility.
(1) ASPICE (Automotive SPICE) is a framework for software process assessment used to measure the ability of an organization to deliver software products effectively and reliably.
(2) AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System Architecture) is a development partnership of leading automotive industry OEMs, suppliers and global hardware and software vendors.
(3) DevSecOps (Development – Security – Operations) is an approach that integrates security as a shared responsibility throughout the IT life cycle
