AHN Grove City Hospital hosts Fall Prevention Fair
Grove City Hospital, a part of Allegheny Health Network (AHN), will host a Fall Prevention Fair on Friday, March 31, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Each year, millions of Americans age 65 and older fall, causing serious injuries such as broken bones or head trauma. The AHN Grove City team is providing a free educational fair to educate the community on risk factors regarding falls, along with simple steps that can be taken to avoid fall injuries.
“Falls are not a normal part of aging, so we want to ensure the community is aware of the available educational resources and options for balance and mobility strengthening, to prevent falls from occurring,” said Stephen Hribar, MD, orthopaedic surgeon at AHN Grove City Hospital.
The Fall Prevention Fair will also educate attendees about the common risks associated with accidental falls, and ways to make their home environments safer.
From April 2022 through March 2023, AHN Grove City saw 715 patients over the age of 65 who had fallen, with and without injuries, for an average of 60 a month.
Several free screenings and educational sessions will be provided at the fair, including mobility and balance testing; medication review; blood pressure screening and stroke education; BMI assessment and healthy eating tips; home-safety assessments and durable medical equipment demos; personal balance and strength training demonstrations; vision screenings; and foot assessments.
Additionally, the Grove City YMCA will offer a senior fitness program review, Superior EMS will provide home safety tips, and Sword Health will offer information on digital, at-home physical therapy options.
AHN Grove City Trauma Services and the American Trauma Society Pennsylvania Division will also distribute fall-prevention gift bags equipped with nightlights, emergency lights and whistles, anti-slip shower strips, and more.
The program will be held in Conference Rooms C and D at AHN Grove City Hospital, located at 631 N. Broad Street Ext., Grove City, Pa., 16127.
