Sometimes I like to say that my face is the money maker. We all know this isn’t true, thats why I write reviews and podcast! All jokes aside, our face is a sensitive part of the body that deserves to be treated right. When playing VR the console rests a lot of it’s pressure on the face and can get uncomfortable pretty quickly. Kiwi Design has done it again by creating the Upgraded Fitness Facial Interface. I have been a pretty avid player of VR so I will give you my honest comparison on the upgraded version.
Features
Kiwi Design looks at feedback from consumers and actually takes it to heart. The Upgraded Fitness Facial Interface is exactly that, upgraded! As someone who previous wore glasses, life kind of sucked when it came to doing fun things that involved moving or anything with my head. Kiwi Design created a glasses spacer for the folks who want to enjoy VR but are cursed with poor vision and corrective lenses. This spacer can easily be added or removed to give you the extra room.
They also created a super nifty nosepiece that virtually blocks out all the light that could enter from below. This feature I struggled with for a few minutes because I used to look down to see where my feet were or to make sure nobody was going to mess with me. But withe the new head head strap, I can easily lift the VR and not have to remove it completely. The nose piece is now amazing and gives an even better and more immersive game play experience by blocking out the remaining light.
To help with breathability they have created vent holes on the top and bottom of the face mask to allow for maximum air flow while gaming. This really helps to keep you cool while getting down in Beat Saber. They patented the L shaped design and made sure they are narrow enough to only let in air and no light.
Padding
The padding that is built for this face pace is absolutely the bee’s knees. There are two different face pad options available with this. The first is the leather pad that is designed for every day use, playing with friends and any normal play time. The material is thicker to allow for more cushion on the face and a more comfortable experience while playing. It is made of a premium quality leather that allows for easy cleaning. The backside has an exceptionally strong velcro type bond with the face mask piece that was truthfully hard to pull off. You will never have to worry about this coming loose.
The second piece, that is probably my favorite because I am a sweaty betty, is the fitness face piece. The material is a super absorbent sponge pad and cloth. It’s great for those who are playing some fitness games or are just naturally sweaty. It is the same thickness as the leather one, however, the main difference is this one is machine washable which helps since it absorbs all the sweat.
Overall
The padding that comes with the VR itself needs to go! Having the option to switch between the leather face pad and the fitness one is a gift. The leather pad is perfect for when you have a group of friends playing together. The easy clean up of sweat and tears is so helpful when bouncing between groups. The sweat absorbing pad is the best for when you’re really getting into an intense game and the heat is on. For those of you with glasses, they heard your feedback and fixed it!
