AAA to Honor Western Pennsylvania Police for Traffic Safety Efforts
WHAT: More than 60 Western Pennsylvania police departments will be awarded AAA’s prestigious Platinum Community Traffic Safety Award for their safety efforts. Twenty-five additional departments will receive gold or silver awards.
WHO: AAA East Central and the following police departments: Aliquippa, Allegheny County, Baldwin, Beaver, Beaver Falls, Bethel Park, Brentwood, Bridgewater, Butler, Cambridge Springs, Canonsburg, Carroll Township, Castle Shannon, Cecil, Chartiers Township, Chatham University, City of Pittsburgh, Clairton, Cochranton, Connellsville, Cranberry Township, Cumberland Township, Edgewood, Elizabeth Township, Erie, Etna, Findley Township, Greensburg, Greentree, Grove City, Hampton Township, Heidelberg, Hermitage, Homestead, Hopewell, Indiana, Jefferson Hills, Linesville, McCandless, McDonald, Meadville, Millcreek Township, Monessen, Moon Township, Monroeville, Mount Lebanon, Munhall, Neshannock, New Brighton, New Castle, New Sewickley, Northern Regional, North Huntingdon Township, North Strabane, Ohio Township, Penn Hills, Peters Township, Pleasant Hills, Plum, Port Authority of Allegheny County, Punxutawney, Rankin, Rochester, Scott Township, Shaler, Shenango Township, South Buffalo Township, South Fayette, South Strabane, South Park, Southwest Greensburg, Swissvale, University of Pittsburgh, Upper St. Clair, Washington, Waynesburg, West View, and Worthington; Sherriff’s departments from the following counties: Allegheny, Crawford, Greene, Indiana, Venango and Washington; and Pennsylvania State Police Troops A (Greensburg), B (Washington), D (Butler), E (Meadville) and T (Somerset).

WHY: Motor vehicle crashes in Western Pennsylvania are a major cause of property damage, injury, and death each year. The officers to be honored through the AAA Community Safety Awards Program continue to strive to reduce the number of fatalities by conducting educational programs and promotional campaigns to encourage the development of safe driving habits.
