Review: YI PRO 2K Home Camera

Home security in today’s world has advanced far beyond the simple alarm system. We now have an almost constant eye on everything happening around our home and loved ones thanks to advances in technology, cameras, GPS and so much more. Being away from home, even without the security aspect, and you want to keep an eye on your pet, your plants or even just your sourdough starter? A simple camera is the best option for you! I previously reviewed the YI Dome 2K Camera and loved it! Today I will be reviewing another model called the YI Pro 2K Home Camera. Read on to read the differences and what I think.

Design

The YI Pro is a simple design that is packed with features and quality. As you can see the camera is very thin and small, making it easy to place in tight areas or somewhere that requires a light camera. The camera is very sharp looking in appearance and can easily blend with any style of home. The camera base is adjustable to allow the camera to face up or down, and be turned without compromising the base integrity or allowing the camera to fall.

Features

The YI Pro 2K is small but mighty as I continue to say. This camera does not offer the PTZ feature of the Dome but it does have a wide angle view to provide a total view of the room. This camera boasts 126 degree view of a room which is pretty good in my opinion. It gives you a wide enough view that it can be put in a corner and catch everything.

The motion detection feature is very accurate and responsive as well. The camera is very sensitive to motion and will alert you even if a cats tail pops up in a corner of view. I can put this from experience with our cats tail popping up in a corner. There are more in depth detection features that come with the paid plans.

The camera can store video and pictures on an SD card for free or on the cloud with the paid subscription. The SD card must be formatted to FAT32 which is something that took me a minute to realize with the first review. But once it is formatted and ready, reviewing video is super simple and fast.

The YI Pro 2K is also able to work with your home Alexa or Google Home equipment. This was nice for me as we have a Google Home in our kitchen that we use regularly. This helped us keep an eye on certain things in other rooms we weren’t in while we were making dinner or doing things in the kitchen.

The intercom feature is spectacular as well. You have the ability to speak through the camera to anyone on the other side and hear them just as clearly back. The speaker on the camera works very well and doesn’t sound distorted at all. This is helpful when talking to pets while you’re away, talking to children in a playroom or nursery, or anything you have set up.

Image/Sound Quality

The YI Pro 2K boasts the 2K image quality which is noticeably better than 1080. The camera has a very crisp image in the daytime footage and has an excellent nigh vision that shows video in even the darkest of situations. The night vision does an incredible job of lighting up a room and catching everything in its path. The camera audio is also top tier. The sound you hear is very clear like you’re in the same room as the camera itself. As I mentioned above you can easily have a back and forth conversation without any muffle or having to yell.

Overall

If you are in the market for a simple and effective camera system that can link to one app and work with your Google or Alexa, than this is the one for you. The camera quality is very high especially for the price point. The night vision is exceptional quality that produces a very clear image in the dark. The intercom feature works flawlessly to communicate with anyone on the other end. The app itself is very easy to operate and figure out as well. The app will walk you through setting the camera up in just a few steps.
