Bidwell Block Party Kicks Off Summer on May 23 with Food, Music, and Cooking/Art Demos
Bidwell Training Center will get a jump-start on Memorial Day weekend when it hosts the first-ever all-ages Bidwell Block Party on Thursday, May 23, from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at Manchester Bidwell Corporation, 1815 Metropolitan Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15233.
Everyone is invited: fun food options prepared by BTC Culinary Arts students, including hearth-baked pizzas in Ooni Ovens, smashburgers, gourmet mountain funnel cakes made in BREEO Smokeless Fire Pits, craft beer from Abjuration Brew Co., and more.
Outdoor food stations featuring chef-prepared delicacies, including:
- Smash burgers
- Hearth-baked pizza in Ooni Ovens
- Gourmet mountain funnel cakes in BREEO smokeless fire pits
- Smokey Tso’s Drums
- Triple B Ribs
- Summertime Swordfish Kabobs
- Flamed Cheese Brushchetta
- Doughnut Mountain Pies
- Local craft beers from Abjuration Brew Co.
In addition, BTC art instructors will offer free hands-on demonstrations of various art techniques including screenprinting, ceramic wheel throwing, and raku firing. Attendees can also dance the night away with summer jams from DJ Kay.
Parking and admission to the event are free. Food and drink tickets will be available for $5. All proceeds benefit BTC’s tuition-free Culinary Arts training program, which provides life-changing career opportunities.
“The Bidwell Block Party is a great family-friendly summer kickoff for our community, and it also offers our Culinary Arts students a chance to shine by showcasing fun new ways to make the most of outdoor cooking and grilling season,” said Chef Anthony Taglieri, Senior Director of Culinary Arts and Enterprise at Bidwell Training Center.
BTC’s mission is to help students develop the skills they need to become employable in fields that have a fast-growing demand for new talent, including food service, healthcare, and horticulture. BTC graduates work at many regional employers, including Eat’n Park Hospitality Group, which also offers experience-building externships to BTC students.
