Review: Narwal Freo X Plus

Cleaning house is a task that we all unfortunately have to deal with on a regular basis. Thankfully there are companies out there like Roomba, Shark and my new favorite Narwal. Today I am going to be reviewing the brand new Narwall Freo X Plus. The X Plus is a more affordable model in the Narwal line up but does not lack any of the high end features that you can expect from a high class company. I’ve owned a Roomba for a few years now and that has been moved to the basement.

Design

The Narwal Freo X Plus looks similar to other robot vacuums on the market. The differences for the Freo X Plus compared to other models are under the surface. The Freo X Plus has flagship level features. The suction power is unmatched by many other robot vacuums. With 3 different suction levels, the maximum boasting a 7800Pa suction power, the X Plus is able to pick up even the most clumped in animal hair and food from a toddler.

The underside has a single no tangle roller brush that guarantees no tangled hair up to 16 inches long. We have had “Nellie” for 36 days, we have ran her almost every day with the vacuum or vacuum and mop feature and have never had a single tangle of hair. We have a long haired cat who sheds like she’s trying to let us make a sweater and I have a wife who also has long hair that enjoys living on the floor. The brush combined with the suction power shows no mercy when it comes to Toddler’s droppings of food and tracked in dirt from the outside. Our home always looks freshly swept and mopped with just the click of an app.

There is a collection port that allows for up to 7 weeks of dirt and dust collection per bag. If you prefer not to use a bag they have a hard dust collection case as well that is very simply cleaned and emptied. The Freo also has a built in drying system that will ensure there is no moisture absorbed into the collection chamber and keeps your home smelling clean and pure. We have used the bag since we’ve owned it and have no had any issues of odor, leaks or anything. I have looked inside and haven’t seen any mold or moisture collecting either.

The Freo has multiple laser guided cameras that allow it to map in a ridiculous speed, avoid obstacles and figure out where it is if it gets picked up and put back down. This feature is especially nice if you map the home but change the layout or remove an object later on. The Freo will actually advise you of a new area in the home and ask if you would like it added to the map.

The Freo also has a smart mop feature on it. It will apply more pressure in dirtier areas and less where needed. The Freo can detect when it is coming up to carpet and lift the mop pad up to allow for the vacuum feature to begin and then revert right back to mopping when it is time. There is a container inside for water that pulls out with just a tug and is sealed to keep it fresh and clean. The mop pad is also washable so once you’re done with the floors toss it in the wash and its ready for the next one.

Application

The app is free to download and syncs with the vacuum super easily. Once you connect to your Freo you can send it off to map the home. This took literally no time for our home which is approximately 1700 sq ft. It was able to determine which rooms had carpet and which ones had hard wood. You can actually add little icons to each room like a bed, toilet, rug you name it! This was a kind of cool feature to me. You are also able to rename the rooms as you see fit.

The app is very intuitive and has quite a bit of options inside of it. I will say that it is not the most user friendly. There are some times that it takes me a minute to find a specific option to change things or to move things around. Overall the app is great and the basic functions are simple to command. When you begin the vacuum process you can vacuum, vacuum and mop, mop then vacuum or just mop. With each room you have the ability to adjust the suction power and the wetness of the mop. If you personally know that you need more suction in one area you can adjust it for that.

The normal vacuum option is quiet enough that you can vacuum the home and be present. It is not obnoxious or overwhelmingly loud. This is a lot different than another model we’ve used in the past. It is also helpful when we are letting Nellie clean up the kitchen while the child naps. The mopping feature is wonderful as well because as it mops it pushes out a burst of air that dries right behind it. This allows you to mop the whole home and not have to worry about walking behind it.

Overall

This vacuum and mop combo is so much more than that. Being in the “budget” price range would make you think it is lacking high quality features. The Freo however is packed with the flagship qualities for a fraction of the price. The Freo is able to pick up the most stubborn of hairs and crumbs. It has the ability to clean up even the messiest of spills and stains. The tangle free roller brush is by far one of the greatest inventions this century! Being able to lift it up and see a clean brush with no hair to pick out, cut and rip makes this worth any price point.

The smart features that allow it to navigate itself throughout the home around obstacles and find new floors or areas on its own. Is it as smart and learning as Skynet? I do not know but if this is whats going to take over and clean the earth I am here for it! At the end of the day if you are tired of having to vacuum or mop all the time and want to reduce your clean anxiety by 100, head over to Narwal HERE and pick yours up today for only $399.99 and check out all of their other items available.
