Pittsburgh native participates in world’s largest international maritime warfare exercise

Petty Officer 3rd Class Shyann Price, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, serves aboard USS Fitzgerald, a U.S. Navy warship operating out of San Diego, California, and participating in the biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise in and around the Hawaiian Islands.

Price graduated from Woodland Hills High School in 2019.

The skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Pittsburgh.

“My mother taught from an early age to be independent,” said Price. “I never wanted to have to depend on anyone else financially and now I know I never will.”

Price joined the Navy four years ago. Today, Price serves as a fire controlman.
