Arcane Wonders to Publish English-Language Version of Retro-Themed Board Game ‘Video Game Champion’ in November 2024
Arcane Wonders, a renowned publisher of high-quality tabletop, board, and card games, is delighted to announce its partnership with Calamity Games out of Brazil to bring Video Game Champion to English-speaking audiences. The English-language version of the board game will be released in November 2024 and will be part of Arcane Wonders’ Dice Tower Essentials line, featuring products hand-selected by renowned board game reviewer Tom Vasel.
In this family-friendly board game for 2-5 players, relive those nostalgic childhood memories when no weekend in the ’90s was complete without a Friday night trip to Blockbuster (or your video game rental store of choice). The game is fully translated from Brazilian Portuguese, from a version known as “O Bom Do Videogame.”
With resource management, you’ll earn an allowance, beg your parents to buy you games, and earn money by doing your chores in order to rent the latest 16-bit game from the store. Balance all of this by selecting buttons from the Action Grid to take actions such as studying, reading gaming magazines, and completing household chores so you can devote the rest of your free time to gaming.
As you progress and successfully raid the store shelves and pick up new games, you’ll explore and collect cards for fictional releases such as the kart racer “Neow Racing” and fantasy title “Dragon Scales.” The games themselves may not be real, but the suitably 16-bit box art that adorns each card only boosts that nostalgic feeling.
“Releasing Video Game Champion feels very personal to me, since I grew up playing video games just like these,” said Robert Geistlinger, President of Arcane Wonders. “There was something special about gaming in those days. Technology was moving so rapidly, and it was an event to go to a video game rental store to pick up the latest release. We’re passionate about that time period in gaming and we’re excited to bring Video Game Champion and other great games from across the world to English-speaking players everywhere.”
Video Game Champion will be available in English via online and physical retail stores beginning in November 2024. Interested players can also sign up for the Arcane Wonders newsletter here for more news about the game’s availability.
