‘Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader’ Introduces Grim Darkness Mode and a Special Challenge for Streamers Together with First Twitch Drops Event

Alongside the release of the Void Shadows DLC for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, developer Owlcat Games introduced a brand new way to experience the game: Grim Darkness mode that challenges players to the full extent of their ability. The first-ever Twitch Drops for the game will take place during a special event.

Grim Darkness mode is the ultimate trial designed for only the boldest, most experienced, and prepared (and perhaps reckless) of Lord Captains. Players will only have a single save to attempt to complete the epic journey through the Koronus Expanse. With no second chances players must live with the consequences of all their actions and decisions. If their party or voidship are defeated, the Grim Darkness journey will end.

To celebrate this new mode, Owlcat is inviting streamers to participate in a large competitive event to see who will reign supreme as the ultimate Rogue Trader. The Grim Darkness Challenge asks streamers to compete live over the course of two weeks to beat (or make it as far as possible in) Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader on Daring difficulty in Grim Darkness mode. There is only one winner, and their feat will be rewarded with a unique prize!

The competition begins on October 22, 2024, at 00:00 GMT, and will last for two weeks until November 4, 2024, at 23:59 GMT, or until all players have successfully completed their playthroughs or were eliminated. Complete competition details, including victory conditions, rules, and eligibility, can be found here.

Moreover, to make watching more exciting and engaging, Owlcat Games for the first time in Rogue Trader has prepared a special Twitch Drops event with unique items that all viewers will be able to grab after watching just one hour of the stream. The Drops will include the following items: a pack of mind-twitching grenades, a helmet of tactical superiority, and a special servo skull (rumor has it, the skull has a few words for those who decide to click on it). This activity will finish on November 4. More details about the exact Twitch Drops are available here.

About Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

In Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, players take on the role of a Rogue Trader, a scion of an ancient dynasty of daring privateers who reign over their own trade protectorate and explore the fringes of Imperial space with the blessing of the Emperor Himself. At their disposal is a gargantuan voidship of immense strength and innumerable personnel ready to follow their leader without question. Show your subjects mercy or disdain, stay faithful to the Emperor or consort with the enemies of Humanity — the Rogue Trader’s every decision sends ripples across entire star systems, changing the in-game world and those who inhabit it.

The Void Shadows expansion allows players to experience an enthralling new story integrated into the main narrative that lets players, explore the lives of their voidship’s denizens and tackle a new looming threat from its deepest, darkest corners: the Genestealer Cult. This horrific breed of xenos works from the shadows and infects the crew with their genetic code to convert them and slowly twist their loyalties for their wretched goals.

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is available on Windows PC via SteamGOG, and the Epic Games Store, together with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. Multiplayer co-op is currently available on the Windows PC version of Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader and will be implemented in a future patch for Mac and console versions.
