AAA: Gas Prices Climb in PA as Market Uncertainty Looms

Gas prices are 10 cents higher in Western Pennsylvania this week at $3.591 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.
Nationwide Trends:
Gas prices have increased nationally by eight cents over the past week to $3.22 as crude oil prices remain above $70 per barrel and tensions in the Middle East continue. U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend initially sent oil futures higher Sunday evening to $78 per barrel. However, markets have cooled since then and crude is back down to the mid-70’s, as of Monday afternoon.
Earlier on Sunday, Iran’s Parliament voted to block the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for ships carrying about 20% of global oil supplies. The latest reports indicate that a final decision lies with the country’s Supreme National Security Council. Most of the cost of a gallon of gas is in direct correlation to the price of crude oil. As it currently stands, these are the highest oil prices since mid-February. Pump prices are still 22 cents cheaper than last June as oil supply in the market is outweighing demand.
