AAA: Gas Prices Continue to Fall During Busy Summer Travel Season

Gas prices are six cents lower in Western Pennsylvania this week at $3.495 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report.
Nationwide Trends:
Gas prices have fallen four cents over the past week to $3.14 as the price of crude oil remains stable. Even though demand rose as 61.6 million travelers hit the road over the Independence holiday, crude prices are helping to alleviate potential increases at the pump. Gas prices are 36 cents cheaper than this time last year. Also, twenty states now boast average gas prices below $3, spanning from New Mexico to Missouri to South Carolina. Mississippi, the state with the nation’s lowest gas prices, is seeing averages around $2.69 per gallon.
Meanwhile, over the weekend, eight members of the OPEC Plus oil producers group said they would pump an additional 548,000 barrels a day starting in August, an increase that was higher than some analysts expected. The increase, which is equivalent to roughly half a percent of global production, is a step up from recent months when the group announced increases of 411,000 barrels a day.
The group, which includes Saudi Arabia, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq, said it was acting based on what it called “a steady global economic outlook and current healthy market fundamentals.” The extra oil in the market has helped accommodate an annual surge in demand that normally takes hold over the summer traveling season.
The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stayed the same this past week at 36 cents.
