Over the years we have been using Hollyland Products and will always be happy to try out new ones. Today we will be discussing the Hollyland Lark A1 which is an extremely affordable version of their other products.
Design
Hollyland has it figured out on the design front and creating a product that is sleek, powerful and easy to pack up for on the go use. The A1 is no different in this aspect. The A1 comes in a small black case that carries everything you will need for any project you are working on. The black or white case, depending on which version you pick, is also your battery pack which can charge your devices up to two times from empty to full giving you about 54 hours of recording time.
Inside the case you will find everything you could need to operate successfully. There are two transmitters that have extremely powerful magnets used to click them to your shirt or where ever you need them. These are strong enough that they can actually grip through a hat. This was super helpful when conducting reviews or podcasting to be able to look discreet but sound clear and concise.
With the new LarkSound app you can adjust, control and set up your Lark A1. The app is extremely intuitive and designed for simple control and execution. Adjust to your surroundings effortlessly via the app and ensure you have the exact set up you need for whatever situation you are in.
Features
The Lark A1 is listed as an affordable device packed full of features and quality, it stands much taller than that in my eyes. The Lark A1 is the perfect device especially for on the go recording, budget friendly systems and when you are still new in the scene of needing high quality recordings. Instead of running out and buying the most expensive piece you can find, this system is set up to match the pros but still give you a budget to work with.
The Lark A1 has a 3 level intelligent noise cancelling system. This can be adjusted via the app or with a quick click on the microphone. This is great when you need the higher filtering during outdoor filming, coffee shop interviews or when the kids are running in the background. The lower filtering is a benefit to provide the feedback reduction of air conditioners, fans, minor background noise but without distorting your voice in any way.
With the noice cancellation for the background sounds there is also an Auto-Limit Clip Protection. This is designed for those random, unexpected loud noises like gun shots, dogs barking, a sudden yell, or anything else really that would deter from your recording. This again is extremely helpful when you are recording in public or using a lower budget and just getting started.
With the sound quality, you are able to adjust the EQ as well. There are three options Balance, Low and Bright, each one offering a specific benefit for your recordings. Each of the three options add depth and quality to your already stellar recording. The app allows you to also adjust up to 6 gain levels. It doesn’t matter if the individual is whispering or shouting there is an adjustment level for just about everyone.
In The Box
In the box comes everything you need whether you have an iPhone or an Android device. There are 2 transmitters, two strong magnets for the transmitters, a USB C and a Lightning receiver, plus two windshield covers for the transmitters and the charging case. Of course there are also the instruction manual and some other papers but the bulk is what matters.
Overall
I have been using Hollyland Products for years with their higher quality systems. This was the first item that I have tried that is “budget friendly”. Comparing the two was shockingly surprising. The Lark A1 delivered exceptionally high quality sound that nearly matched my more expensive counterparts. The set up was comparable and simple to do. The app was an extremely nice addition to add to the mix and really made it simple to control and perform what I needed to do.
