Recently I was able to review the Nexus N5 and tell you how amazing it is. Today I am happy to bring you an update on a new product that shares quite a bit with the N5 but brings about a few new features. Design

This device boasts a 3.9 inch display that gives you crystal clear insight on what your camera can see. This screen also gives you a full view of every feature you have enabled on this device. The actual device only measures in at 4.88 inches long and 2.7 inches tall which doesn’t obscure your driving view at all. It is small enough that you forget you even have it set up sometimes.
The front facing camera that watches the drive is built for 1944P/30FPS video recording giving you absolute clarity when reviewing any video down to the greatest detail. The front cabin, rear cabin and rear camera give you a solid 1080P/30FPS video recording offering an intense quality of view as well.
The Nexus 5S is designed to either be plugged into external power or to be hard wired into the vehicle. We opted to hardwire into our vehicle to take advantage of all the features that were offered. The Nexus 5S, just like its counterpart, is built with Super capacitors instead of a battery. This was done to provide a longer lifespan, better protection during the cold and hot months. This is extremely unique and something that I appreciate as a techie. After testing both items out, they are equally superior to having a built in battery.
The body is a very sleek black that doesn’t reflect light or cause a glare while driving. The cable management is the only thing that some people might not enjoy as it does have to be powered. You can take your time and run the wires around the trim so its minimally visible which is what we did and now nothing catches or gets in the way. This is an additional item you can purchase to make your life easier.
Features
Just like the Nexus 5, this unit is jam packed with features and full of goodies. The front camera is upgraded to have the improved camera with better resolution and it shows. The rear cameras all still have the intense clarity and that you expect with the Vantrue products.
The 5S has the same 360 degree coverage that is offered with other units. The coverage is so beneficial when the vehicle is parked and and you want to keep a close eye on your vehicle. The 24/7 parking monitor feature is one of the best especially if your vehicle is parked outdoors. This setting allows the camera to record a 10 second back video. Meaning, if something is noticed the camera will backtrack 10 seconds and save the video then continue recording the incident and more.
If you are one who likes to have complete access to your camera systems at all times, this new feature is perfect for you. The Nexus 5S has an additional LTE Module that provides a wireless connection to your camera system at all times. This will give you unlimited access at any time from anywhere if you have concerns about your vehicle.
The device is also capable of of connecting to your Vantrue app via 5G. This has made it very simple to download videos, share recordings and send anything out that you need to. This coupled with the voice control feature has made it as simple as possible to maintain control of your device without having to lose focus on what you are doing. Same goes for the GPS logger that is built in to track your speed, route, parking spot and more. All of this is accessible via the simple to use app.
Overall
It is without question that this device is top tier in terms of vehicle protection and peace of mind. The Nexus 5S is packed full of features, upgraded camera system and clarity that is unmatched across the board. The voice control feature is extremely easy to use and picks up your voice without having to yell. The motion detection features are great when the car is parked and you want to see whats happening around it. After using this for so many trips in my day to day life it’s nice to track video and log my GPS to see common routes I take and compare to my random trips.
