UBISOFT FILM & TELEVISION ANNOUNCES 2021 WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP PARTICIPANTS
Today, Ubisoft Film & Television announced that Winnie Yuan Kemp and Carol Bass have been selected to participate in the 2021 Women’s Film & Television Fellowship out of a record number of applicants. As fellows in the program, both women will have an opportunity to mentor with Ubisoft Film & Television’s executives and explore the extensive library of Ubisoft IP to pitch original ideas based on the world, community and culture of video games.
Now in its fourth year, the Women’s Film & Television Fellowship is designed to illuminate women, non-binary, trans, gender-nonconforming and gender-variant people within the entertainment industry. The team opened this year’s fellowship to candidates without agents or managers, creating a unique opportunity for folks looking to break into the industry. The Women’s Film & Television Fellowship expanded its program with additional mentorship opportunities with enrichment sessions covering Business Affairs, Physical Production, PR and Marketing.
“The fellowship remains one of the most rewarding and fun parts of what we do at Ubisoft Film & Television. Seeing Mishna Wolff’s pitch take shape and develop into our first independent feature, “Werewolves Within,” for IFC, was an incredible experience, and we can’t wait to see what Winnie and Carol come up with,” said Margaret Boykin, Director of Film Development.
Winnie Yuan Kemp – Film Fellow
As a TV producer of underrepresented voices, Winnie Yuan Kemp uses genre and her insatiable curiosity to explore the story of ordinary women who discover that they are capable of extraordinary things. This made Winnie an obvious choice for Ubisoft’s fellowship program. “It always irritated me that the action genre was always primarily written by men – so I finally took up the pen myself,” shared Winnie. “Being able to interface with an industry-leading company like Ubisoft and explore their incredible library of IP is an absolute dream come true. I’ve loved gaming since I was a kid, and I’m now rediscovering that passion through the eyes of my two sons, who are obsessed with any and all video games.”
In addition to the Ubisoft fellowship, Winnie’s audio fiction project, “The Double[s],” was selected to be developed through the 2021 Orchard Project Labs; she was a Women in Film Insight Fellow and one of ten women of color selected to participate in Spotify’s Sound Up diversity program in 2020.
Carol Bass – Television Fellow
Carol Bass’ life-long love for storytelling led her to become the Writers’ Assistant on L.A.’s Finest, where she co-wrote episode 110 and wrote episode 209. Recently, she was the Script Coordinator/Writers’ Assistant on an unannounced Netflix series and she published “Crowns of Capfici,” a YA fantasy novel. “As a lover of fantasy and science fiction, it would be a dream to work within the intricate worldbuilding found throughout Ubisoft’s immense and diverse library to create something incredible,” said Carol. “Carol is an incredibly talented writer and I’m looking forward to working with her to create something new and exciting,” said Danielle Kreinik, Director of Television Development.
