Common Welding Methods and Their Applications

Arch Welding

Arch welding, also called stick welding, uses an electric current to melt and weld metals together. MIG Welding

Metal inert gas welding, abbreviated as MIG, welding transports and electrodes using a tool gun to bond and shape metals. To prevent contamination, the tool creates a protective layer of gas on the targeted welding area. Welders use this process for heavy-duty projects, such as creating sewage systems, railroad tracks, cranes, and tractors.

TIG Welding

Tungsten inert gas welding, or TIG, uses a tungsten electrode to connect one piece of metal to another. Similar to MIG welding, TIG welding also creates a protective shield with gas to prevent contamination. The difference is that MIG welding relies on a continuous wire feed while TIG welding relies on welding rods. Welders often use this type of welding to create ships, airplanes, and space shuttles.
