MAYA NEELAKANTANChennai, India
Maya Neelakantan Over the last two years, Maya Neelakantan, a self-taught, twelve-year-old guitar prodigy from Chennai, India, has risen to the global stage with appearances on America’s Got Talent (Season 19), as well as her own YouTube page playing her now viral hard rock favorites from TOOL and Metallica. Her performance of the song “Last Resort” by the band Papa Roach became a global hit during her time on AGT. The show’s host, Simon Cowell, called Maya a “rock goddess.” Maya’s global musical prowess earned her a personally signed guitar sent to her by Adam Jones, guitarist of TOOL, a cherished gift that continues to highlight her growing recognition in the music industry. In 2022, she was awarded the prestigious Cliff Burton Scholarship, a testament to her exceptional talent and dedication. Maya’s technical ability started developing more quickly than anyone anticipated, and she worked hard to learn Carnatic music, a type of traditional South Indian classical music that requires intricate slides and microtones and is extremely complex to play on a guitar. In 2022, Maya caught the attention of the renowned guitarist known as “Guitar Prasanna,” who had pioneered the technique of playing Carnatic music on the guitar. Maya fell in love with Carnatic music and, through her teacher’s guidance, she began to explore this traditional art form further, opening up a new chapter in her musical career and thus introducing a new dimension to her musical abilities. Maya’s talent and determination shine brightly, attracting the continued support from her musical heroes and setting her apart as a rising star in the music industry. Maya’s joy when playing her favorite music, her infectious smile, her positive personality, and her tenacity are an inspiration to everyone and are seen as a bright light in this world. “Gibson G3 came into my life at a very important time, when music was becoming more than just a hobby,” says Maya Neelakantan. “Gibson’s connections provided me with invaluable musical experiences. They were always ready to answer all my questions, and even gifted me a guitar for the stage. I’m incredibly thankful to Gibson—thank you for all the support.” Maya Neelakantan: INSTAGRAM | FACEBOOK | TIK TOK  FAELAThe Netherlands (EU)
