FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – January 15, 2014- Groundbreaking wireless speaker company, Libratone Inc. is making an impression on the Chicago art and design world. Today, the Chicago Athenaeum announced that the Libratone Zipp is a winner of the 2013 GOOD DESIGN™ award for Design Excellence. Additionally, Libratone’s award-winning Zipp and Live are now on display in the Department of Architecture and Design at the Art Institute of Chicago.

“Design is an integral part of Libratone speakers, so to be recognized is an honor,” said Libratone Inc. CEO, Gregg Stein. “To be a permanent fixture at such a prestigious museum shows that the world is seeing Libratone speakers as we intend them to be—pieces of art.”

GOOD DESIGN ™ is the world’s most prestigious, recognized, and oldest Design Awards program organized annually by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies. For 2013, the museum received submissions from several thousand of the world’s leading manufacturers and industrial and graphic design firms.

The Art Institute of Chicago has a rich collection of works dating back 5,000 years, as well as an impressive collection of contemporary art, architecture and design. The department of Architecture and Design has in its collection objects by major figures internationally, which illustrate the museum’s commitment to exhibiting, collecting, and preserving the most innovative expressions of architecture and design from practitioners working at the forefront of these fields.
