PLAYA VISTA, Calif.Nov. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Linksys®, a leader in networking solutions for the home and business, today announced the new powerful Linksys Max-Stream Tri-Band AC3000 Wi-Fi Range Extender (RE9000) to extend the Wi-Fi® signal throughout the home.

“Dead zones and weak signals in some parts of the home are common pain points for Wi-Fi users,” said Kannan Vardarajan, Linksys senior product manager. “Working with any ISP modem router or Wi-Fi router, our new Max-Stream range extender will help expand your existing Wi-Fi while eliminating dead zones and boosting Wi-Fi speeds in the farthest corners of the house. We’ve built our new range extender to provide mesh-like capabilities to solve these pain points, so users can roam freely throughout their home. We’ve also added more robust capabilities to ensure customers get better coverage without having to replace their router or ISP gateway.”

There are five main features that give the Linksys Max-Stream Tri-Band Range Extender the ability to reach in the farthest corners of the home:

  1. Tri-Band MU-MIMO Technology with dedicated backhaul (three radios with the latest 802.11ac Next Gen AC Wave 2 technology) and High-Performance Antenna design for high performance Wi-Fi coverage
  2. Seamless Roaming for automatically connecting to the best access point (router or range extender)
  3. Dual Mode Capabilities – in addition to range extension, access point mode is also supported
  4. Spot Finder™ technology for optimal placement and performance in the home
  5. Automatic firmware updates ensure device and security is always up to date

Tri-Band MU-MIMO Technology
With the Linksys RE9000, users can eliminate Wi-Fi dead zones and boost range to homes with more than three bedrooms.*  The AC3000** range extender also includes quick and simple setup, and will have users streaming 4K/HD content, gaming online, and roaming freely around their home, even in hard to reach spots like the garage backyard, basement or attic, in an instant. Using Tri-Band MU-MIMO Technology, an added 5GHz Wi-Fi band provides dedicated backhaul for communication between the RE9000 and existing Wi-Fi routers, including, those from an ISP provider. The result is full-strength Wi-Fi without degradation. Users can gain speeds up to 3x faster than Dual-Band range extenders.

High Performance Antennas
Linksys uses four high-powered external antennas to boost signal around the home with three or more bedrooms, while reducing interference so smartphones, tablets and computers all stay simultaneously connected to stream, game or browse the internet.  Linksys antennas enhance Wi-Fi coverage to eliminate dead zones and boost the Wi-Fi signal to reach all areas of a home.

Seamless Roaming Technology
When the Linksys RE9000 is paired with a Linksys Max-Stream Router, Seamless Roaming technology is enabled, simulating a “mesh-like” environment and smartphones, tablets and laptop devices are automatically connected to the strongest signal. Supporting Wi-Fi protocols 802.11r/k and Band Steering technology helps steer client devices to roam around the home always connected to the optimal access point, from either the router or range extender, seamlessly without having to manually connect or lose connection. Seamless Roaming works much the same way devices work in an office environment where users can move room to room, floor to floor always staying connected to the office Wi-Fi connection.

Dual Mode
The Linksys RE9000 supports dual mode.  This means that the range extender can serve as a range extender to boost signal as well as an access point to provide Internet connectivity to wired or wireless devices in other rooms.

Spot Finder Technology
The Linksys AC3000 Max-Stream Range Extender also features Spot Finder Technology (patent pending) to show users on their smart phone, when setting up the range extender, where the best placement in the home would be to get the best performance. The set-up app tells users to place the range extender closer or farther away from the router or if the placement is “just right.”

Automatic Firmware Updates
The new RE9000 also provides users the benefit of automatic firmware updates.   If users choose to disable automatic firmware updates, the new firmware can be downloaded and installed manually.  Automatic firmware updates provide customers the convenience and peace of mind that their product is always updated with the latest software and features.

Additional features include:

  • Band Steering
    • Automatically steers devices to the fastest and least congested Wi-Fi band.
  • Beamforming Technology
    • Reduces interference and focuses signal in the direction of Wi-Fi devices for optimal performance.
  • One Touch Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS)
    • Allows users to connect their range extender to their router with a quick push of the WPS button§
  • Four Gigabit Ethernet Ports
    • Connect a printer, game console, hard drive or any Ethernet connected device to the network

An active, customer-purchased Internet Service Provider broadband account is required for connection to the Internet. May require a software/firmware update available for download at Linksys.com/support.

* Range specifications are based on performance test results under normal use case conditions. Actual ranges will increase or decrease depending on wireless obstructions, operating environments, and building material. Wireless coverage claims are used only as reference and are not guaranteed as each wireless network is unique. Coverage statements regarding house size are provided as a guide only and cannot be guaranteed due to variations in size, layout, building materials and the level of wireless interference present.

** Maximum performance derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual performance can vary, including lower wireless network capacity, data throughput rate, speed, range, and coverage. Performance depends on many factors, conditions, and variables, including distance from the access point, volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, operating system used, mix of wireless products used, interference, and other adverse conditions. In order to achieve the best performance, this product must be used with compatible AC3000 wireless devices.

The standard transmission rates of both 5 GHz radios—1733 Mbps + 867 Mbps—are up to 3x faster physical data rates when compared to dual-band AC1200 range extenders with one 5 GHz radio speed of 867 Mbps. To achieve these speeds, this range extender requires a 5 GHz connection to the router. The 2.4 Ghz radio: N400 Mbps.

Seamless Roaming is designed for devices that support the 802.11k standard, including but not limited to, iPhone (4s and later), iPad Pro, iPad Air and later, iPad mini and later, iPad (3rd generation and later), iPod touch (5th generation and later), Samsung S4 (Android 4.2.2 /4.4.2), Samsung S5 (Android 4.4.2), and Samsung S6 (Android 5.0.2). For more information on supported Windows® and other devices, please check with your device manufacturer. Seamless Roaming may require the latest Max-Stream firmware. Please check the support page of your Linksys Max-Stream Router for more details.

§ Push Button Connect works with devices that support Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ like Linksys Wireless-AC routers and others.
